Margaret Kerr (MacInnes) Conrod

Conrod (MacInnes), Margaret Kerr - passed away on June 30, 2021 in Halifax.

Born in Islay, Alberta in 1918, she was the oldest child of Norman and Marybell (Mae) (Landells) MacInnes.  At an early age the family moved to Winnipeg, MB and then on to Musquodoboit Harbour in 1937.

A forward thinking woman of energy and determination, Margaret attended business college in Truro and was employed as a bookkeeper at various companies, including T. Eatons.  In later years she owned and operated a small convenience store in Dartmouth, helped her husband with his trucking company and ended her working days at CFB Shearwater.

Always active in the community, she was an avid volunteer and church member dedicating her time to the Red Cross, St. Thomas Anglican Church, St. Andrew’s Anglican Church ACW, teaching Sunday School, and participated in other church functions.  She enjoyed handcrafts, particularly sewing; teaching classes to 4H groups and crafts at the Halifax County Rehab Center. A lifelong athlete and sports fan,  she recently stayed active in a Seniors Bowling League. Family and friends knew not to call her during a televised Blue Jays game or action movie.  She loved to travel and never missed an outing with family. She maintained lifelong friendships across Canada and always stopped in for visits when she and Gerald took one of many cross country trips. Her grandchildren feel especially blessed to have had her as a big part of their adult lives.  Her ingenuity, fearlessness and never say never attitude left them with exciting memories.

She is survived by her daughters, Geraldine (Julius) Mitsch, Calgary; Katherine Collier, Waverley; son, Cameron (Mary) Conrod, Musquodoboit Harbour; grandchildren, Michael Mitsch (Cathy), Salmon Arm, B.C.; Katherine Mitsch, Calgary; Marianne Conrod, Musquodoboit Harbour; Karen (Tom) Clifford, Swindon U.K.; four great grandsons.

She was predeceased by her husband, Gerald; son-in-law, Joseph; brothers, Donald and Rev. Murray MacInnes; sisters, Norma Wournell and Molly (Mary) Hamilton.  Margaret was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

The family thanks the staff at Melville Lodge for their care over the past few years.

Interment will be at St. Thomas Anglican Church, Musquodoboit Harbour.

Donations in memory of Margaret may be made to St. Thomas Anglican Church, Musquodoboit Harbour.
