Margaret Anne McTiernan

McTiernan, Margaret Anne – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret McTiernan, at age 84, of Halifax, on October 15, 2025 in Truro.

Born Margaret Anne Hicks in Beechville, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Marie (Burke) Hicks.

Margaret enjoyed competitive paddling in her early years and was involved with the Air Cadets. She later worked for the government in a variety of roles before marrying and starting a family. They would relocate to California for ten years before returning home to Halifax where they would remain and continue family life. Her family was the most important thing to her and she was known to those closest to her for her kindness, thoughtfulness and selfless devotion to others. She also had a great love for animals and enjoyed baking and crafts.

Surviving are her sons, Stephen (Gayle) of Kincardine, Ontario; Alan of Halifax; Greg (Nancy) of Nine Mile River; grandchildren, Timothy, Andrew, Kathleen, Laura, all of Ontario; brother, John (Betty); sister, Kathy (Hans) Moller; along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

She was predeceased by her husband, Daniel Francis “Mick” McTiernan; siblings, Anita (Ronald), Edward (Dorothy) and Donna.

Cremation has taken place.

A graveside service will be held at a later date in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to any animal charity.
