Wilson, Jon Davidson – Jon was born in Belmont, Nova Scotia in 1942 to Arnold and Margaret Wilson. In his younger years, Jon attended the Nova Scotia Agricultural College where he studied farming and played hockey. Seeking opportunity, Jon moved to work the mines in Ontario and Manitoba, where he would spend the next few years. He married Barbara in 1965 and they returned to Belmont where they spent almost 60 years together, raising six children. Jon worked as a lumberman and then a farmer for many years. Jon continued his passion for farming into his retirement.
Jon was very active in the Belmont United Baptist Church, both as a deacon and a caretaker. He enjoyed shoveling the snow and making sure the church was warm for gatherings. Jon also spent many years as a member of the church choir, a Sunday School teacher, and a ministry volunteer at Dorchester Penitentiary. In addition, Jon loved to skate, garden, and stay active with his daily trips around the farm or to the woods. Jon loved his family, neighbors, church, and community. Jon learned to cook and bake in his later years, and enjoyed making a fabulous breakfast for his family.
Jon was predeceased by his parents, Arnold and Margaret, and his wife, Barbara. He is survived by his sons, Perry (Karri Lynn) of Belmont; Tim (Anna) of Bible Hill; Jon of Alberta; and Carl (Judy) of the Philippines; daughters, Bette Lou (Dwayne) of Mississippi; and Billie Jo (Stephen) of Bible Hill; grandchildren, Linda, Timothy, Elizabeth, Tyler, Emily, Margaret, Natalie, Josie, Charlie, Victoria, Marrina, and Jon Ansel; several wonderful great grandchildren; and his sister, Audrey (John) Hungerford; and brother, David (Gail); along with a multitude of nieces and nephews.
After a brief illness, Jon passed away on November 6, 2025 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, surrounded by his family. Funeral arrangements will be Monday, November 24th, in Belmont United Baptist Church at 2 p.m., with a gathering to honor the lives of both Jon and Barbara to follow.
Jon exemplified the teachings of his Lord and Savior. He had an enduring love for all of mankind. He never met a stranger and always showed kindness to those in need.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Matthew 11:28-29
