Blank, Weldon Lawrence – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Weldon Lawrence Blank, who passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on October 25, 2026, in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro at the age of 92.
Weldon was born in Dartmouth, a son of the late Gerald and Bessie Blank. Following his marriage to Eileen (Ferguson), Weldon settled in Shubenacadie, where he spent the majority of his life and raised four children. He was a devoted husband, loving father, proud Grampy, brother, uncle, and dear friend who touched the lives of many throughout his long and fulfilling life.
Weldon proudly served with the Canadian Coast Guard for nearly 40 years. Following his retirement, he became a familiar and much-loved figure in Shubenacadie, affectionately known as “The Yard Sale Man.” He could often be found on his front deck selling tires, bikes, and just about anything else he could find a way to flip. His yard sale became part of the fabric of the community, reflecting his resourcefulness, entrepreneurial spirit, and unmistakable personality.
Beyond his many ventures, Weldon was a man who gave generously of his time and spirit. He volunteered at the local food bank and Saint Bridget’s Catholic Church, and he faithfully attended Saturday morning Men’s Prayer Group. He also enjoyed a good game of cribbage, a game he rarely lost! Weldon will be fondly remembered for his quick wit, wonderful sense of humour, generous heart, and willingness to lend a helping hand. Whether through a clever remark, a friendly visit, or a simple act of kindness, he had a way of leaving a lasting impression on those around him.
Weldon leaves behind his beloved wife of 64 years, Eileen; and children, Donnie (Sharon), Coleen (Stan McCulloch), Stephen (Kelli), and Daniel (Dennise Greene). He will be lovingly remembered by his sister, Joan Thompson; his grandchildren, Christopher (Kristen), Rebecca (Ian), Ryan (Josie), Lauren (Brodie), Mark (Brittany), Jacob, and Elsie. Weldon was blessed with five great-grandchildren, Emerson, Delilah, Briar, Evelyn, and Xavier, each of whom brought him great joy.
He was predeceased by his parents, Gerald and Bessie; his brothers, Elwood and Gerald; and his beloved dog, Abby.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at The Mira for the care and support they provided Weldon over the last year and a half. They would also like to thank the staff of E2 at Colchester East Hants Health Centre for their kindness, compassion, and support during his final days. Your care and thoughtfulness will always be remembered and deeply appreciated.
A funeral service will be held on November 2, 2026, at 2 p.m. in Saint Bridget’s Catholic Church in Shubenacadie, officiated by Father Jim O’Connor. A reception will follow where family and friends can gather to celebrate Weldon’s life and share memories.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Weldon’s memory may be made to the Shumilacke Food Bank, 5 Mill Village Road, Shubenacadie, NS, B0N 2H0.
Weldon lived a life marked by hard work, devotion to family, service to his community, and a humour that will not soon be forgotten. His presence will be deeply missed, but the memories, laughter, and love he leaves behind will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Forever loved, deeply missed, and always remembered.
