Ferguson, William “Sewell”

Ferguson, William “Sewell” – Age 90, Truro, and formerly of Sydney, passed away March 9, 2015, in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, surrounded by his loving family. Born November 18, 1924, he was a son of the late Bill and Mamie (MacDonald) Ferguson. Sewell served in the Canadian Army during World War II. He was employed by Cape Breton Bus and Tram, then Sydney Steel Plant, from where he retired after 34 years. He was a member and elder of St. Andrew’s United Church, Sydney, a 38-year member of Coxheath Fire Department, serving as Chief for nine years, and was a lifetime member of Maritime Fire Chiefs Association.

Surviving are his loving wife of 64 years, the former Edda Phillips; children, Ruth, Darrell (Lynn Russell), Cheryl (Rodney) Burgess; grandchildren, Ken and Elizabeth Ferguson; Bill (Laura), Bob (Martine), Brandon (Jenn) Williams; Breagh (Vince Decarlo), Kevin (Katherine) Ferguson; Ben, Katie, Charlie Edwards; Ryan and Jamie Burgess; eight very loved great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Sewell was the last surviving member of his family. He was predeceased by son, Tim; brothers, Len, Owen; sisters, Sally, Ethel.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be Friday from 6-8 p.m. in First United Church Hall, Truro, and a Celebration of Life will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in First United Church, Rev. Valerie Kingsbury officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First United Church, Colchester East Hants Health Foundation – Palliative Care, Colchester East Hants Hospice Society or a charity of choice.
