Hiltz (Hurshman), E. Jean

Hiltz (Hurshman), E. Jean – Passed away July 7, 2015, surrounded by her loving family. Born on May 7, 1943, she was a daughter of the late William and Ethel (Soper) Hurshman. Jean was born in Dutch Settlement and spent her life there with the love of her life, her husband and best friend, Willard. Together they raised their children, Lenny (Darlene), Lake Egmont; John (Shawna), Milford; Cindy (William) Pearo, Alder Point, Cape Breton; Jamie (Connie) Dutch Settlement. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren, Angie, Lori, Danielle, Jessica, Amanda, Cory, Clarissa, Jacqueline and Justin; great-grandchildren, Nathan, Bella, Vanessa, Tyler and Damenon. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Ken, Harvey; sister, Kay Card; grandsons, Matthew and Robert.

Jean worked at various jobs, with her last one being as a jail guard for the Enfield RCMP detachment. She was a tremendous community volunteer. She received a 25 year pin from the RCMP for her dedication as a volunteer. She also received the highest award of the Ostomy Halifax Society for her faithful dedication as newsletter editor. She was recognized as Volunteer of the Year by East Hants Municipality.

Visitation will be Thursday, from 7-9 p.m., and funeral service will be Friday at 3 p.m., both in St. George’s Anglican Church, Dutch Settlement, Rev. Canon David Fletcher and Rev. Patty McKenna officiating. Cremation to follow with burial at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ostomy Halifax Society.
