O’Shaughnessy, John Wayne – It is with heavy hearts that we announce John’s passing on July 30, 2018, at the age of 61, with his loving wife and family by his side. John was a son of Rita (Graves) Kinney, Lucasville, and the late Kenneth O’Shaughnessy.
John worked for many years for Bob’s Taxi in Dartmouth, retiring from Halifax Stanfield Airport as a commissionaire in 2013. Those who knew John will remember his love of wrestling, or men in tights as he was so often teased about, his weekend card games spent with family while making sure everyone knew he had the best partner because the girls could never beat them. Most important to him was his life with Peggy, his family and his pets.
John is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 24 years, Peggy (Fraser); stepsons, Terry (Sheryl) Decker, Middle Musquodoboit; Kevin (Darnell) Decker, Alberta; stepgrandchildren, Kaleigh Hood (Tim), Kenneth Hood (Katie), both of Shubenacadie; Kendra Hood (Justin), Lanesville; Phoenix Decker, Middle Musquodoboit; siblings, Ethel (Reg) Nauss, Lunenburg; Gord (Cathy) O’Shaughnessy, Bridgewater; Anne O’Shaughnessy, Chester; stepsister, Beverly (Allan) Clay, Sackville; sister-in-law, Donna (Ken) Wambalt, Dartmouth; Cindy Beeler, Texas; Laura Romkey (Cor), Teresa “Terry” (Randy) Rossiter; brothers-in-law, Glen (Kim) Fraser, Robbie (Tamie) Taylor, all of Middle Musquodoboit; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by stepsister, Eunice; stepfather, Sam Kinney.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at Peggy and John’s home from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, August 4th. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
Peggy and family would like to extend a very special thank you to the doctors and nurses of the Halifax Infirmary ICU for the outstanding support and compassion during John’s stay.
