Jim MacNaughton

MacNaughton, Jim –It is with heavy hearts that the family of Jim MacNaughton announce his passing at age 65 after a brief battle with cancer. Jim, from Hilden, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 6, 2023 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, with his beloved family by his side.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Alanna; two daughters, Lindsay (Evan) and Alison (Kyle); two adored grandchildren, Arya and Elliott; and sister, Anne. Jim is predeceased by his parents Merlin and Alice MacNaughton.

After graduating from Maritime Forest Ranger School in 1980, Jim spent 39 years working within the Department of Natural Resources. In addition, he spent numerous years working as a volunteer firefighter with the Hilden Fire Brigade. Jim’s selfless personality and strong work ethic made him an invaluable team member and his storytelling ability helped to form many lifelong friendships.

In his free time, Jim loved spending time with his family, and he could usually be found around a barbecue or smoker, cooking meals for family and friends. He loved taking Arya and Elliott for adventures in the woods, curling up on the couch with his kitties and a good book and taking the dogs for a drive. In his retirement years, Jim loved taking road trips, helping work on vehicles and watching car races.

Jim will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him. He was a kind man whose love for his family was truly unparalleled. He was a great husband, a wonderful father and, in the words of his granddaughter, the best Papa ever.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Hilden Fire Hall on Monday October 16th from 4-6 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cobequid Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre or any animal charity of your choice.

Jim’s family would like to extended a sincere thank you to the palliative care team at Colchester East Hants Health Centre. A special thanks to nurse Janet and Dr. Cortney Smith.
