It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Timothy Henry Benjamin, “Tim” as he is known to his family and friends. Tim passed away at the age of 49 on December 22, 2025 at his home in Gays River. Tim was born to Allan and Thelma Benjamin, in Truro, NS. He was one of four children with his story starting as a twin, he loved to say his twin brother pushed him into the world first – an early lesson in patience, toughness and humor that stayed with him all his life. Tim was a fifth-generation farmer in Gays River. The land was not just where he worked but where his family’s history lived and grew. Farming was not just his livelihood – it was his passion, his purpose and the place where he felt most at home. Over the years, Tim also brought his hard work ethic to MacTara’s Limited, Taylor Lumber, Basin Contracting Limited, Miller’s Asphalt Paving, Gallant Aggregates Limited and Kenny Scothorn’s Auto Salvage. Outside of farming and work, Tim had a deep love for hockey, playing with his local team in East Hants as a child growing up and in different gentlemen’s leagues as an adult. He had an unwavering loyalty to the Boston Bruins even when they tested his patience. Tim was known for his kind heart and generosity – he would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need or drop whatever he was doing to lend a hand. He had the gift of gab, a stubborn streak, a good sense of humor and was fiercely protective of his family. Above all, Tim’s proudest accomplishment was his son, Gabe, whom he deeply loved and adored. Tim is survived by his son, Gabriel (Madison); his loving parents, Allan and Thelma; brother, David (Tasha); sister, Tracy (Tammy); and twin brother, Toby; special aunt, Jean; and mother of his son, Amy. He will be sadly missed by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Henry Watson Benjamin and Edna Kerr; Frank Kennedy and Annie Gauthier. A special thanks to the paramedics, Dutch Settlement Fire Department and RCMP. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. A family burial will be held in the spring.Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
