Richard Bruce Rogers

Rogers, Richard Bruce - age 76, of Middle Sackville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, in QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Sydney, Nova Scotia, ‘Rick’ was a son of the late Samuel Herbert Bennett Rogers and Helen Josephine (Murphy) Rogers.

Rick proudly served in the Royal Canadian Navy for 34 years. Throughout his career, he was stationed aboard several ships, including the HMCS Bonaventure, Annapolis, Huron, Preserver, Nipigon, Iroquois, Protector, Gatineau, and Toronto, and also served at CFS Shelburne and CFB Halifax.

Rick’s love for his family was only surpassed by his love for his Saviour, Jesus Christ. He was a devout member of Evangel Church in Cole Harbour and loved attending services, hearing the Word of God, and connecting with others. He joyfully ministered through music, especially through singing with The Gospel Lights and sharing hymns and the Gospel at Scotia Nursing Home. Whether helping his nephews, in-laws, or anyone in need, Rick’s heart for others was always evident.

Rick loved crossword puzzles and tackled one nearly every morning with unmatched skill. He delighted in watching his grandchildren play sports and sing, and cherished every moment spent golfing with his sons, watching movies with family, and sharing his seemingly endless knowledge of historical and random facts. He had a quiet strength and steady presence—always available when someone needed him. Whether offering a ride, a story, or simply his company, Rick was a source of comfort, fun, and unwavering support to those around him.

He was a devoted husband to Marilyn Anne (Williams) Rogers, and a deeply loved father to his sons, Aaron (Alicia) Rogers and Paul (Heather) Rogers. He was the proud “Grampy” of his cherished grandchildren, Cody, Hannah, Nathanael, AJ, Zachary, and Samuel. He is also remembered by brothers and sisters-in-law and eight wonderful nephews. Richard was predeceased by his brothers, Allison Rogers and John Rogers.

A celebration of Rick’s life will be held on Tuesday, July 22 at 11 a.m. in Evangel Dartmouth, 1412 Cole Harbour Rd., Cole Harbour, NS, with a time of refreshment to follow. Interment will take place afterward in Memorial Gardens, Middle Sackville.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Richard’s memory may be made to Camp Evangeline or Diabetes Canada.
