McKenzie, Darlene Ann – age 71, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2026, in Truro, Nova Scotia. Born in Halifax, Darlene lived a life marked by deep love for her family, dedication to her work, and a quiet strength that touched all who knew her.
Darlene built a fulfilling career as a hairdresser, working for 33 years in salons across communities from Bedford to Stewiacke. Her warm presence and skilled hands made her a trusted figure to many clients over the decades. Later in life, she embraced a new chapter with enthusiasm and courage by working at DeBeers Diamond Mine in Snap Lake, Northwest Territories. This fly-in fly-out camp job became what she fondly referred to as her “adventure job,” reflecting her willingness to explore new paths and embrace change. So many fun summers pool side, or up at the property. Darlene loved to be with Louis and they shared so many fun times together.
Family was at the heart of Darlene’s world. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Denika Robinson and son-in-law Garnet Dykens; granddaughters, Kaylee (Brandon) and Khloe; stepson, Michael Porquet and stepdaughter-in-law Deborah; granddaughters, Rory and Bailey; and grandson, Alex. She also leaves behind her sisters, Christina Parker, Nancy Scothorn (Peter), and Denise Clarke (Jeff); sister-in-law, Barbara McKenzie; along with many cherished nephews, nieces, cousins, and lifelong friends.
Darlene was predeceased by her beloved husband, Louis Porquet; her parents, John and Shirley McKenzie; her brother Gerald McKenzie; and brothers-in-law, Bill Parker and Reg Scothorn .
Those who knew Darlene will remember her as sweet, caring, quiet yet fun-loving—a woman whose love for her family radiated through every part of her life. Her presence brought comfort and joy to those around her, and she will be missed so very much by all who loved her.
May her memory bring peace and warmth to those she held dear.
A Celebration for the Lives of both Darlene & Louis will be held at a later date.
If you wish to make a donation in her name, Darlene has two charities dear to her heart - Canadian Cancer Society (Lung) or the SPCA.
