Faulkner, Marilla Mertie – Age 95 of Nine Mile River, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2026 in Halifax with family by her side. Born in 1931, she grew up in Halifax, the second child of Warren and Rita (Moore) Norman. She spent her childhood summers with her family in West LaHave, where her father’s parents lived, and always cherished fond memories of those years.
After graduating from Queen Elizabeth High School in Halifax, she attended Normal College in Truro and began work as an elementary school teacher. Teaching took her to Montreal and to Blackie, Alberta, where she made lifelong friends, and to many places around Nova Scotia, including Clifton, Sheet Harbour, Elmsdale and Shubenacadie.
In Clifton she met her future husband, Ralph Faulkner, when boarding with his parents. They were married in 1958 and moved to the farm in Nine Mile River in 1959. She was a faithful member of the Anglican Church Women of St. David’s Anglican Church, Upper Rawdon and the Women’s Auxiliary of Lower Nine Mile River.
She is survived by her son, Stephen, Blackfalds, AB; daughter, Nancy Hunter (Torrie), Marsh Lake, YT; grandchildren, Darcy, Edmonton, AB; Miranda (Tyson) Kamp, Bentley, AB; Ted Hunter, Ladysmith, BC; Luke Hunter, Halifax; Alicyn Hunter, Seattle, WA; great-grandchildren, Cohen and Grady Kamp, Bentley, AB; and sister, Sherry (Ronald) Haynes, Toronto, ON.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph; sister, Helen Norman; brother, Maurice; and sister-in-law, Shirley Norman; nephews, Tony and Geoffrey Norman.
Funeral service to be held Thursday, May 21, 2026, 11 am, in St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Centre Rawdon with a reception to follow at 2 pm in Lower Nine Mile River Community Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice.
