McManus, Doris Elizabeth “Betty” – age 86, of Bible Hill, passed away peacefully at home on July 5, 2026.
Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Matthew and Bessie (Rafuse) Gallant.
Betty was a stay-at-home mom who always had an open door for Shawna’s friends. She was a caring, loving wife to her husband, Charles “Chuck”. Her spare time was taken up as a volunteer with several organizations.
She will always be loved and missed by her children, Shawna McManus (Doug McLaren), Bible Hill; Gail Oakley, Fairview; Cathy McCarthy, Annapolis Valley; Wayne McCarthy, USA; Bev Munro, Bible Hill; Wallace McCarthy, BC; sister, Barb Harnish, Herring Cove; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was predeceased by 13 siblings.
Cremation has taken place.
A Celebration of Life will be held August 8 at 2 p.m. at the family home in Bible Hill.
A family graveside burial will be held in Bible Hill Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to Canadian Red Cross.
Many thanks to Dr. Amanda Webster, Dr. David Henderson, VON and Palliative Care team of Colchester East Hants Health Centre who together allowed Betty to remain in her home to the end.
