Fiddes, Kathleen Ann – of Lower Onslow, passed away on Thursday August 20, 2026 at Debert Court. She was 88 years old.
Ann was the eldest of 5 children, Lin, Bonnie, Bruce and Valerie. Her parents were Charlie and Grace (Peters) Fiddes. Her mom passed away in 1987 at the age of 69, her dad in 2004 at the age of 93, her brother, Bruce left us in 2020, at the age of 68, and sister-in-law, Bev.
Ann is survived by brother, Lin; sisters, Bonnie (Bill) Hazelton, Valerie; sister-in-law, Ann; many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and even great great nieces and nephews, Paul (Sharon) Fiddes (children, Josh (Tamara) and their children, Gwen and Owen); Justin Fiddes; and Kayla Fiddes (Justin Colson) (children, Elaina, Liam and Layne); Tammie Fiddes (children, Devin Miller (Melanie) and their children, Charlie and Lincoln); and Shawn Miller; Fred (Chantale) Hazelton (children, Bram (Taylor), Alec and Mattice); Melanie (John) Will (children, James and Allan); Marcus Fiddes (Andrea Munroe) (children Alden, Ruby and Ira); Andrew Fiddes (Luke Power); Joanna Fiddes; Alan Fiddes (Kaylee Walker) (son, Lachlan); Lori (Chris) Grund (children, Olivia, Lily and Sophie); Brandon Purdy (son, Clay); and Conor Purdy. Whatever activity those nieces and nephews were participating in, if she could, she was there to watch and support.
Ann’s early years included multiple stays at the Children’s Hospital in Halifax, many orthopedic surgeries and long recoveries. Despite physical challenges and a world that had not yet learned how to best treat her condition, she was not deterred or prevented from living her life “my way”.
Ann graduated from Colchester County Academy in 1956. After a brief time at Mount Allison University in New Brunswick, she returned home and attended Success Business College, graduating in 1957. Ann enjoyed a 40-year career with the Municipality of Colchester, retiring in 2001.
Ann was a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, Onslow Belmont UCW, and enjoyed bowling in various bowling leagues, including a Nova Scotia Women’s competitive team. She volunteered with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colchester, which included being a Big Sister and serving on the Board of Directors. She served on the Along the Shore Community Health Board, as well as many other volunteer activities over the years.
Ann was church organist at Lower Onslow United Church for 50 years, taking over from her grandmother, Blanche Peters. During that time, she worked with the church choir, junior choir and community choir, Joyful Noise.
Ann was happiest when she was outdoors, camping or just sitting on her front deck enjoying the fresh country air.
A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday August 26 at 2 pm, with visitation before the service at 1 pm and reception to follow, all in Trinity Untied Church, 415 Onslow Rd, Upper Onslow. Committal will be in Lower Onslow Clarke Cemetery.
Donations to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colchester East Hants to further the work that was so important to Ann during her lifetime would be gratefully accepted.
