Lawrence, Freda Mae (Shay) – of Great Village, NS, passed away September 12th, 2026 – two months before her 92nd birthday.
The meaning of a life is impossible to capture in a short sequence of words… here is a brief glimpse:
Freda lived a long life regardless of numerous health setbacks. She had a strong will--a survivor who never let things get the best of her. Her dynamic personality was appreciated by her large circle of friends over the years. She liked to tell it like it is--with a no-nonsense approach to situations.
Freda had a great sense of humour, a powerful wit, was generous, kind, and cared--not only about her own family and friends--but about the state of the world. Her interests included a vast variety of subjects. She was always learning. She was highly dedicated to her religious faith and enjoyed close bonds with its members.
Freda loved horses. She was an excellent rider and trained her own horses. Her passion for art stretched across her life. She leaves behind a large collection of sketches and paintings that showcase her talent and love of nature and animals. She was an excellent cook—her delicious meals and desserts were a magnet to family and friends; guests frequently visited her to enjoy a lively conversation.
Freda played guitar and liked to sing. She enjoyed Country/Western music and movies about the Wild West. She loved plants and had a thriving garden in the summer. She liked to sew and make clothes, was an avid reader, possessed an active creative mind and never stopped being curious about the world. Animals were special to her. Throughout her life she had many horses, dogs, cats, even geese! Freda will be deeply missed by all.
