Ronald Ivan Baker

Baker, Ronald Ivan – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ronald Ivan Baker, age 54 of Clam Bay, on Monday, July 24, 2017. Born and raised in Jeddore, Ronnie was a son of Ivan and Dorothy Baker, East Jeddore.

Ronnie was born with his rubber boots on his feet and a fishing net in his hands. From early childhood, Ronnie made a living on the sea. He started ground fishing with his father when he was a young boy. As a teenager, he created his own fishing enterprise to provide for his family and to continue his love for fishing. Ronnie was a skilled and fearless captain, well liked and very respected by all those who fished alongside him, and throughout the community. He was most known as captain on the Miss Jeddore Harbour and most recently the Demiah Jean. His happy demeanor was contagious and his smile could light up any room. When spending time with Ronnie it was nearly impossible not to smile or laugh alongside him because of his uplifting and joyful personality. When he was not at sea he enjoyed hunting, traveling, spending time with family and relaxing at the cottage in Lake Charlotte.

Ronnie was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He has passed alongside his wife, Laura. He will be truly missed by those who had the incredible fortune to know and love him. Ronnie is survived by his sons, Jason and Jeffery; stepdaughter, Ashley; stepson, Jordan; sister, Shirley (Brad); brother, Jimmy (Darlene); grandchildren, Alivia Baker-Day, Hayden, Hunter; nieces, Nicole (Dan), Natalie (Brad), Taylor; nephew, Derick.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating Ronnie’s life will be held on Monday at 2 p.m. in Jeddore United Baptist Church, Head of Jeddore. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada, Nova Scotia Chapter.

Arrangements are under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit.
