Hovey, Joyce Elizabeth – formerly of Lantz, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2025 in Cedarstone Enhanced Care, Truro.
Just shy of her 90th birthday, Joyce was born in Caribou Gold Mines. She was a daughter of the late Stanley and Stella (Benedict) Brown.
Some may remember Joyce as a hairdresser in Dartmouth early on in her career. Later, she worked for Nightingale Nursing Services as a care worker until her retirement. It was through her work that she met Trinda Miller, who would become her close friend and roommate in her later years. Joyce enjoyed gardening, especially tending to her rose bushes. She also enjoyed knitting, donating much of what she made to people less fortunate than herself.
Joyce was predeceased by her children, Karen and Peter Hovey; along with five brothers and five sisters.
She is survived by her brothers, Medford (Pamela), Burlington, ON; Paul (Eileen) and Darrell, Dartmouth; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of Cedarstone for taking care of Joyce while she lived there for the last seven years and for their concern in her final days.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit.
At her request, she will be laid to rest with her beloved children in Hillcrest Cemetery, Upper Musquodoboit at a private service.
