Dube, Helen (Williams) – Helen (Williams) Dube passed peacefully Sept 4, 2026 in Elk Court in Brookfield, Nova Scotia. Born in Birkenhead South, England, she was a daughter of the late William Williams and Kathleen (Wallace) Williams. She grew up in Stafford England for most of her childhood, the early years in very uncertain times during the war. She was sent to a home as were many of the children, until they could be reunited as a family. She was very active in school sports and theatre, then joined the Army after school where she met a Canadian Navy Sailor, Paul Dube. They were soon married and posted to Scotland where they had their first two children, Denise and Paul. In 1966 they moved to Ontario Canada. Such a culture shock for Helen, her high heels and mini skirts were soon shed for rubber boots and jeans. In 1970 Paul rejoined the Canadian Navy as a submariner and the family moved to Nova Scotia where they searched for a plot of land to call their own. They were lucky enough to find a large piece of land in Centre Rawdon and soon started getting the property ready for their new home. Danielle was born in early December 1973, just weeks after them finishing the build and moving in.
Helen loved the Rawdon Hills and soon became involved in many aspects of Rawdon life. She was involved in 4-H as an art leader, United Church Women’s group and Fire-ettes. Later she was one of the founding members of one of the first Village Garden Clubs and a member of the Blueberry Quilters.
Helen was a talented artist in many forms. She was a renowned painter, often donating paintings for local fundraising efforts for her community or church. Her gardens were spectacular and Helen enjoyed the local kids having their pictures taken for Prom and Grad. She also was an amazing quilter and even created beautiful pieces of stained-glass artwork as well.
Helen is predeceased by her husband, Paul Dube; siblings, Joan, Joe and Kath. She is survived by her children, Denise, Paul and Danielle; brother, Billy Williams, England; grandchildren and many cherished nieces and nephews in both Canada and England and will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by all.
Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held in 2027 when family are able to travel to attend.
In lieu of flowers and to honour Helen, please plant sunflowers by your mailboxes next year. Helen’s goal was to beautify her community, and her favourite garden was her mailbox.
