Sherry Louise (Jennings) Faulkner

Faulkner (Jennings), Sherry Louise – Of Oyster Pond. It is with heavy hearts and overwhelming sadness that we announce the passing of our precious wife, mother, daughter, sister, and grandmother. Sherry passed away on August 28, 2018, surrounded by her family. Born in 1962, she was a daughter of Shirley (Clarke) Jennings and the late Allen “Bud” Jennings.

Sherry leaves behind to mourn the love of her life, David; her children, Shawn (Nina), Matthew (Denise); grandchildren, Dakota, Angel, Electra, Leeland, Justice, Jason, J’Rose, Jaylin; brother, Timmy (Kim Wight); sisters, Janet (Warren Day), Chrisie (Mark DeBaie), Patricia (Paul Foley), Sheila (Stewart Kerr), Tammy (John Rowlings); many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brother, Wyman; nephew, Samuel.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 13th, at 2p.m. in St. James Cemetery, 9114 Highway 7. A Celebration of Life to follow in Oyster Pond Fire Hall. Memorial donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society.

Jean Beatrice Crout

Crout, Jean Beatrice – 1926-2018 of Porters Lake, passed away September 25th, 2018, in Cedarstone Enhanced Care, Truro. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Nellie Anderson.

Her early working career was at Evans Hardware in Halifax, and R.P. Carey Hardware in Westphal. She was one of the first in Nova Scotia to complete her early childhood education, and later owned  and operated Lake Echo Day Care and Pre-school for more than 20 years. She worked hard to raise her children. She enjoyed watching wrestling, the Blue Jays, roller derby, playing bingo, and cards. Her life was very involved in St. Augustine’s Church, in Lake Echo.

Surviving are daughters, Sandra Baker (Glen), Porters Lake, Joanne (Dwight) Mattern, Victoria, son, John (Joyce), of Porters Lake; daughter-in-law, Heather, Oyster Pond; sister, Marie Percy, Vancouver; 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, six great great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Joseph “Jack”; son, Ronald; great-grandson, Levi; sisters, Eileen Blackwell, Beatrice Morison, Helen Anderson, son-in-law, James Baker. Cremation has taken place.

A memorial Service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in St. Augustine’s Anglican Church, Lake Echo, with Rev Fred Grainger officiating. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to St. Augustine’s Church or Make-a-Wish Atlantic Provinces.

Dolores Ann Castle

Castle, Dolores Ann – Age 56, Middle Musquodoboit, passed away September 21, 2018.   Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of Kelsie Poirier, Ontario, and Ted Duggan, East Jeddore.

Dolores’ favorite pastimes were sharing a cup of tea with her friends on the front deck or sitting by the fire. She loved planting flowers and creating gardens around the yard.

Dolores leaves behind her husband and best friend, Perry; sister, Laurie (Al) Brisebois; brother, Richard; daughter, Jocelyn; son, Travis; grandchildren, Mackenzie and Allyson Ryan, and Logan Castle.

She was predeceased by her stepmother, Vaunda Croizier; and stepfather, Robert Poirier. Cremation has taken place.

In keeping with Dolores’ wishes, a celebration of her life will be held in the family home from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, September 30. Everyone is welcome to stop by and share memories, tell stories, and support her loved ones.

Helen Mary Kathleen Mercer

Mercer, Helen Mary Kathleen – Age 83 of West Jeddore, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2018 in Dartmouth General Hospital, with her daughters at her side. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late William and Lillian (MacKay) Atwood.

 Surviving are daughters, Sharon Dooks, Darlene Langille, Kathleen Mercer, Janet MacMillan, Susan Mercer; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert; sons, Clary, Stephen; sister, Margaret Faulkner; brother, Gerry Atwood.

 Cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, September 23 at 3 p.m., in St. James Anglican Church, Dolby Hill, with Rev. Andrew Mortimer officiating. Burial to follow in St. James Cemetery, Head of Jeddore. Family flowers only. Memorial donations to Dartmouth General Hospital West Wing 4th Floor would be September 15, 2018 in Dartmouth General Hospital, with her daughters at her side. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late William and Lillian (MacKay) Atwood.

Kenneth Milton Hoyt

Hoyt, Kenneth Milton – Age 73, of Brentwood, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2018, in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, following a short battle with cancer. Born in Onslow, he was a son of the late Melnor and Florence Hoyt.

Ken was a lifelong gardener and dearly loved working on his property and with his flowers. He had been employed with Air Canada for 34 years from where he retired in 2001.

Ken is survived by Weaty, his best friend and wife of 49 years. He was the proud father of Troy (Charity), Victoria B.C.; and dearly loved his granddaughter, Haley, Calgary. He is also survived by brothers, Frank (Joan), Ronald (Cathy), Russell (Sandy); sisters, Carol (Wayne), Doris (Sterling).

Cremation has taken place. In keeping with Ken’s wishes there will be no visitation or funeral service. Memorial donations may be made to the SPCA or a charity of your choice.

James Lester Fahey

Fahey, James Lester – of Maitland. It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Jim in Colchester East Hants Health Centre on September 14, 2018. Born in East Noel, he was a son of the late Austin and Marguerite (Fletcher) Fahey.

He was an outdoorsman, enjoying many years working in the woods and growing sods for Elmsdale Landscaping. Jim always enjoyed his time at the hunting camp and the campground. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother-in-law and friend to all.

Surviving are his wife, Nancy (Lake); sons, Lonnie (Reina); Jamie; grandchildren, Hayley, Amelia, Roger, Rey and Gabriela. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, LeBlanc and Rogar.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Jim’s life will be held Sunday, September 16, at 2 p.m. in Maitland Fire Hall. A private burial will be held at a later date. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.

Rose May Streatch

Streatch, Rose May – Meaghers Grant. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rose May Streatch, age 74, on September 12, 2018. Born in Dartmouth, she was a daughter of the late James and Geraldine Hickey.

Rose fostered more than 50 children, enjoyed shopping with Sheila, playing cards for the booby prize, and spending time with family and friends.

Left to mourn are her husband of 57 years, Howard; daughters, Cathy (Garth), Sheila (Garland Sr.); brothers, Jimmy (Doreen), Mike and John; sisters, Shirley, Margie (Ken) and Sherry; grandchildren, Natasha (Kyle), Draper (Marie), Garland Jr.; great-grandchildren, Colten, Titan and Dyson; dear to our heart foster child, Josh Graham. She will be missed by special friends, Sheila MacKenzie, Sandra Flemming, Sweet Sixteen Card Party Club, and special childhood friend, Patsy Gosselin. She was predeceased by twins in infancy; brother, Douglas.

Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be Saturday, September 22 at 2 p.m., in St. James United Church, Meaghers Grant, Rev. Dr. Linda Yates officiating. All are invited to a time of fellowship in Meaghers Grant Fire Hall at 3 p.m. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to SPCA, Hope for Wildlife, Souls Harbour Rescue Mission or a charity of choice.

Leonard Arthur “Hogie” Jennings

Jennings, Leonard Arthur “Hogie” – Age 72, Dartmouth, passed away September 7, 2018, in Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Dartmouth, he was a son of the late Harvey and Marguerite Jennings.

Surviving are his forever friend, Diane Martin; brothers, Norman, Barry and Chris; sisters, Arline and Cheryl; nephew, Ronnie Aucoin; grandchildren, Monica Martin, Troy Johnson, Zackary Martin. He was predeceased by his brother, Wilfred.

Thomas Marshall “Tommy” MacRoberts

MacRoberts, Thomas Marshall “Tommy” – It is with great sadness that the family of Thomas Marshall MacRoberts, age 81 of Lake Echo, announces his passing on September 6, 2018, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in Head Chezzetcook, he was a son of the late William and Emile (Bonang) MacRoberts.

Tommy is survived by his wife of 57 years, Norma (Crooks); daughter, Kelly (Gerard Bradbury); son, Kyle (Kim Collier-MacRoberts); granddaughter, Jade (his little princess); special granddaughter, Amy Parsons; special grandsons, Conor and Liam McVarnock; brother, Freddy (Karen); sisters, Theresa Atkinson and Luella Hart; special second family, Ronnie, Kenny, Jerry and Bernie Clark; and special son, Chris McKay. He was predeceased by brothers, Bernard, Charles, Donald; sisters, Mary, Geraldine, Eva, Virginia, Olive; and niece, Gloria.

He had many accomplishments, his greatest being a strong and loving husband, father and grandfather. He took great pleasure in being Santa for many years to children and adults alike. He was a member of the Volunteer District 8 Fire Department, founder of Lake Echo Lions Club and chartered the Lioness and Leo Club the same year. Tommy was also a Youth Alternative volunteer and bell ringer at St. David’s Church. Tommy travelled to many places while employed with B.I.O., Dartmouth. He was proud to serve on The Baffin on its maiden trip through the Northwest Passage. Some of his fondest memories were travelling through the Panama Canal as well as being in the West Indies. His second career was with Queen’s Harbour Master, Halifax Dockyard where he worked for 35 years, retiring as Chief Engineer on the Glenevis.

Cremation has taken place. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, September 12 in St. David’s United Church, Lake Echo, Rev. Kym Burke-Cole officiating. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to St. David’s United Church.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of 8.2 Halifax Infirmary for their care and compassion.

Jeanetta Roberta Spears - Service Announcement

Spears, Jeanetta Roberta – Age 94 of Port Dufferin, passed away June 24, 2018, in Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow. Born in Sober Island, she was a daughter of the late John and Mildred (Harnish) Logan.

Jeanetta was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 56, Port Dufferin.

Surviving are her daughters, Gloria (Gordon) Troop, St. Margarets Bay; Muriel (William) Helpard, Henderson, Nevada; Vera (Silvano) Leutri, Toronto, Fern (Gerry) Beaudoin, Blanc Sablon, Quebec; sons, Keith (Tara), Cape George; Garth (Ena), Marinette; Philip (Beryl), Port Dufferin; Lloyd (Arlene), Truro; Meryl (Cindy), Gander, Nfld.; Darrell (Denara), Dartmouth; 29 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews; sister, Shirley Levy; brother, Harold, both of Sober Island. She was predeceased by her husband, Harold; sons, Weldon and Manuel; daughter, Shirley Curtis; brothers, Elmo, Lloyd “Sterling”, Donald, Duncan, Charles, Granville, Eric; sister, Margaret Rose in infancy.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Jeanetta’s life will be held on Wednesday, September 5 at 11 a.m. in St. James Anglican Church, Port Dufferin, Rev. Gary Barr officiating. Jean-Pierre “J.P.” Prince

Prince, Jean-Pierre “J.P.” – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loved one, J.P. Prince, on September 5th, 2018, in Truro.

J.P. was the sixth child of Jeanne D'Arc (Daviault) and Eddy Prince of Cap-de-la-Madeleine, Quebec. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1970, serving for four years, and making friends that would last a lifetime. He then made Truro his home, working as a mechanic, later for Department of Lands and Forests and then moving on to home renovations. He truly was a jack-of-all trades and was quick to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. J.P. was very family oriented and visited his family in Quebec each year, never forgetting his roots. He will be deeply missed and we will carry him in our hearts forever.

J.P. was a devoted father to David (Tracey Stanley), Monique, Sara, and Stephanie. He shared a close bond with his grandchildren, Lucas Prince-Stanley, Summer Naser and Nicholas Sharpe, who affectionately knew him as Baba.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit. J.P. was predeceased by his daughter, Stephanie, and his father, Eddy. Besides his mother, he is survived by his siblings, Roger (Hélène), Ginette, Réjean (Hugette), Christian, Donald, Guy (Diane), Claude (Lucy), and Martine. He had a particularly close relationship with his nieces, Jennifer Goodwin and Maya Prince; and nephews, Brandon and Zachary MacDonald.
