Ferguson, Edda Grace – Age 87, Truro, and formerly of Sydney, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2016, in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Sydney, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Grace (Jackson) Phillips. Edda volunteered many hours with UCW, Coxheath Fire Department Ladies’ Auxilliary, was a member and held office in the national and local Seniors’ Federation, sang in many church choirs and the ladies’ barbershop choir, Breton Bells. She worked as a secretary in many different businesses in Sydney, all while raising her family. She was a very social person, making friends wherever she went.
Surviving are her children, Ruth, Darrell (Lynn Russell), Cheryl (Rodney) Burgess; grandchildren, Ken and Elizabeth Ferguson, Billy (Laura) Williams, Bobby Williams, Brandon (Jenn) Williams, Breagh (Vince Di Carlo), Kevin (Katherine) Ferguson, Ben, Katie, Charlie Edwards; step grandsons, Ryan and Jamie Burgess; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Sarah (Ray) Stevens; brother, Stuart (Dot) Phillips; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Sewell; son, Timothy; siblings, Wilbert, Lillian Weir, Helen Butts; half-brothers, Cecil, Harry, Ernest, Wilbur; half-sister, Inez.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be Friday from 6-8 p.m., and funeral service will be Saturday at 2 p.m., both in First United Church, Truro, Rev. Valerie Kingsbury officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Old Barns Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First United Church, Colchester East Hants Health Foundation – Palliative Care or Colchester East Hants Hospice Society.
