Robb, Patricia – passed away peacefully on December 27, 2024 in Musquodoboit Valley with close friends and extended family by her side.

She is survived by her grandson, Cody During.

Patricia will live on in the hearts of all who loved and cared for her.

In keeping with Patricia’s wishes there will be no service. Cremation has taken place.

Kevin Edwin Daniel McMaster

McMaster, Kevin Edwin Daniel - It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of Kevin McMaster, age 48, of North River, on December 25, 2024.  He was a son of Hughie and Linda (Whooten) McMaster, North River.  Kevin is survived by his life partner, Jaclyn Dale; his son, Daniel Dale; mother, Linda McMaster; sisters, Lisa and Tammy McMaster; nephews, Colby, Brandon, Nick, Mike, and Harley; and his cherished niece, Emma.  He was predeceased by his father, Hughie McMaster and his beloved dog, Myrin.

Kevin spent most of his life working at Stanfield’s before going across the river to Stella Jones.  He had many talents from being able to build and fix just about anything, chainsaw carving, playing guitar, helping injured wildlife, and making people laugh.  There wasn’t anything he couldn’t do.

Kevin loved being outside and spent much of his time fishing and hunting.  He enjoyed making plans for the next trip, telling stories about his adventures, or showing off his big catch, or a big buck.  Kevin was passionate about riding and collecting motorcycles and dirt bikes.  He valued every trip with his friends or son.  Kevin was proud of many aspects of his life, most of all his son, Daniel.

Kevin made friends everywhere he went by joking around and making people laugh.  Kevin was always there when someone needed a hand and appreciated helping people whenever he could.  He will deeply be missed.

His immediate family would like to thank all of Kevin’s family and friends, especially Dave Whooten, for all their love and support.

Memorial donations may be made to Hope for Wildlife. 

Cremation has taken place and there will be a celebration of life to be announced at a later date.

Carol Ann Maxwell

Maxwell, Carol Ann - It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved mother, Carol Ann Maxwell on December 21, 2024 at the age of 79. Her final moments were spent peacefully surrounded by family.

Born in Truro, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late Lena and Courtney Kaye.

Mom was a woman of immense humor, quick wit and wisdom, cherishing every moment spent with her loved ones. A friend to many, she is leaving behind a legacy of kindness and strength. While our family grieves her loss, we are choosing to remember her in a way that honors her spirit.

Mom was predeceased by her brother, John and daughter in-law, Melanie. She is survived by her brother, Kenny; special sister in-law, Betty; and her children, Philip, Debbie (David), Donnie, Krista (Darryl) and Julie; grandchildren, Brian, Jeremey, Brandon, Cody, Shanice, Rayven, Jade, Emily, Rebecca, Erin, Madeline; and several great-grandchildren.

Rest easy mom, you are now free from pain; and do not worry, we will watch over each other until we meet again.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Mom’s precious life will be held at a later date.

Carl Elliott Whitman

Whitman, Carl Elliott - In the early morning of December 20, 2024 Carl Elliott Whitman, husband, father, Grampy, passed away in Dartmouth General Hospital at the age of 85. Carl was born and raised in Upper Musquodoboit with parents, Carl and Ethel Whitman and siblings. He attended school there and grew up working on the family farm. Mom and Dad met when they were kids and were together for their whole life. They married in 1960 and although he raised his family in the city, his heart was always in the country where he and family spent most weekends.

Dad had a successful welding career for over 40 years, and was well known and respected throughout his trade as an excellent teacher in all forms of metal fabrication. He could make anything and loved tackling the most challenging projects. Not only good with his hands, he had an astonishing mind and had an innate ability to decipher how any machine worked. He was an inventor, problem solver and designer who was always helping people and was the go-to right up to the end.

Dad was a humble man of few words. Well liked by all, he left a lasting impression on anyone who met him. Always up for a bit of fun and laughter, he loved to tease the grandchildren and made them the best snow slides. He was a great Dad who loved us all, and we loved him and will miss him deeply.

Carl is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sylvia; children, Betty Knocton (Chuck), Bill Whitman (Cathy Merriman), Mike Whitman (Sara Lee), Wendy Tanner (Martin); grandchildren, Ashley, Myles, Jessica, Megan, Josh, Kyle, Robyn, and Olivia; great grandchildren, Sydney and Rory. He is also survived by brother, Darrell Whitman and sister, Beverley Fudge; sister-in-law, Betty Morton; Uncle Lester and many cousins, nephews and nieces.

Carl was predeceased by parents, Carl and Ethel and his sisters, Marlene and Paulette.

As per Dad's wishes, there will be no funeral. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

We offer our deepest gratitude to the nurses and doctors who cared for Dad in Dartmouth General. They are all remarkable people.

Margaret "Joan" Gault

Gault, Margaret “Joan” – passed away December 19, 2024 in Braeside Home for Special Care, Middle Musquodoboit, just short of her 84th birthday.

Born in Upper Musquodoboit, she was a daughter of the late Dick and Libby Gilbert.

As an only child, she always looked forward to having her family around her. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, reading, visiting thrift stores, watching TV and going to bingo. She loved spending time with her pets. Joan and Hector had several trips to Newfoundland, a place she thoroughly enjoyed.

Joan will always be loved and missed by her children, Jackie (Boyd), Joe (Connie), Rose, Roxie (Stacy), Brent (Connie), Stewart; grandchildren, Chris, Courtney, Krista, Alicia, Andrea, Nathan, Kayli, Nick, Tyler, Ivan, Bradley, Lyndsey; great-grandchildren, River, Alyssa, Kalee, Zoe, Emily, Landon, Keegan and Brayden.

She was predeceased by her husband, Hector; son, Roger; daughter, Tanya; grandson, Ryan.

Cremation has taken place.

In keeping with her wishes there will be no visitation or funeral service.

Regina "Gina" Louise Dolhanty

Dolhanty, Regina “Gina” Louise - It is with profound sadness that the family of Regina “Gina” Louise Dolhanty announces her peaceful passing on Monday, December 16, 2024 at the age of 64, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her son and loving family.

Born in North Sydney, Cape Breton, Gina held a deep reverence for her birthplace. The second eldest of six children, she leaves behind her sisters, Joanne and Pauline Dufour (Eric); and her brothers, Stephen (Judy), Joey, and Vernon. Gina was predeceased by her parents, Reginald and Rosalie (Gouthro) Dolhanty; and her brother-in-law, Alain Marquis.

Known for her infectious joy and laughter, Gina leaves behind a legacy of love and courage. Her greatest pride and joy were her son, Joey; daughter-in-law, Crystal; and her cherished grandchildren, Oliver and Remi Jo. Gina treasured every moment with them, sharing endless treats, love, and laughter. Oliver and Remi Jo brought her immense strength and resilience with their playful antics and unwavering love. Having spent the last four years in Elmsdale, Nova Scotia, Gina cherished the proximity of her grandchildren, son, and daughter-in-law. She relished spending time with her loved ones, enjoying evenings with Joey, relaxing together, and of course, sharing a few glasses of wine. Gina delighted in ordering takeout, often exclaiming with pride, "I'll Buy!" She was always available to watch the grandchildren and never hesitated to care for their dog, Rocco. Gina embarked on a successful career as a Dental Receptionist and later transitioned to a fulfilling role as a stewardess on the MS Chi Cheemaun in Tobermory, Ontario. During her nine years in Ontario, she forged deep friendships, sharing adventures, drinks, and live music. A part of Gina will forever remain in Tobermory.

To Mom - The most charismatic, enduring, and strong woman I knew. Your smile illuminated every room, and your personality was always so welcoming. I cherish countless fond memories, knowing I could always make you smile and laugh. Nothing could deter you, nothing could slow you down. Though you may be gone, you will never be forgotten. You will always hold a special place in my heart, and for that, I am eternally grateful. I will often ask myself, "What's new?" as if you were still by my side. I love you.

We are eternally grateful for the compassionate care provided to Gina by Lynn, and the palliative care teams at the Musquodoboit Valley Memorial Hospital, the VG Hospital in Halifax, and the dedicated staff at Northwood Homecare.

A mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, niece, and cousin, she will be deeply missed by all. She lives on in our hearts.

A service and celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, Gina wished for donations to be made to an education fund for her beloved grandchildren, Oliver and Remi Jo. She would be overjoyed to know that their education would be supported, allowing them to pursue their dreams and aspirations. Beaman, Brian David - It is with broken hearts the family of Brian David Beaman announce his passing on December 14, 2024 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro.

Brian will be missed by his partner in life, Donna Fraser; son, Jordan Swan (Brenda); grandchildren, Cody, Casey; step-daughters, Debra, Stephanie (Quentin), Sonja; step-son, Donald; step-grandchildren, Kyle and William; and siblings, Gordon, Donald (Rachel), Ellen, Linda (Charlie), Terry (MaryLou), and Darrell.

He was predeceased by siblings, Wayne, Watson and Laverne.

Judith Pearl (Taylor) Miller

Miller (Taylor), Judith Pearl – Age 82, of Cooks Brook went to be with Jesus on December 13, 2024.

Judy was born in Halifax and she was a daughter of Reta Taylor and the late Art Taylor.

Besides her mother, she will be deeply missed by her husband of 66 years, Burke Miller and children, Gary, Kim (Gordie) Hill, Paula Miller, Trent Miller; daughter-in-law, Janette Miller; her 12 beloved grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Gary Taylor (Lona); sister-in-law, Valerie Taylor; several nieces and nephews.

Judy was a wonderful daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister, sister-in-law and friend.

She was predeceased by her son, Craig; daughter, Wendy Adams; and brother, Norman Taylor.

She loved her fur baby, Rowdy who brought her great joy and comfort.

A family graveside service will be held in Elderbank Cemetery.

Constance "Connie" Lorraine Shaw

Shaw, Constance “Connie” Lorraine - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Connie Shaw, age 88, on December 11, 2024.  She passed peacefully after a lengthy illness and was surrounded by family.

She was born Constance “Connie” Lorraine O’Leary in Glace Bay, the only child of the late James Patrick O’Leary and Mabel Bertha (Gay) O’Leary. She was a graduate of Morrison High School (Business Ed. class of 1953) Glace Bay. She was married to the love of her life, Joseph “Gus” Shaw, for 63 years until his passing in 2020. Shortly after their marriage, Connie and Gus moved to Halifax, where she worked as a legal administrative assistant for eight years, before moving to Goose Bay, Labrador. She loved this northern experience, and has said that those were some of the best years of her life. In 1967, Connie, Gus and their three children moved to Truro, where she lived until her passing. There, Connie was the Immaculate Conception Church office manager for eighteen years. She finished her working career as a sales assistant at Reitman’s, a job she loved and didn’t retire from until she was 80 years old. Connie was a long-standing sorority member of Beta Sigma Phi, as well as the Red Hatter’s Society of Truro. She served terms as the treasurer of the Truro Figure Skaters Club and the Truro Girl Guides Association. Connie was a founding member of the Colchester Highland Dancing Society, and worked tirelessly for many years in support of this organization. She loved movies, theater and “Elvis”. She loved to travel, especially her annual September road trips with Gus down the eastern seaboard of US, to celebrate their anniversary. As Connie was a tremendous lover of Christmas, and created many wonderful memories and traditions that her family continues to cherish, it is particularly heartbreaking that she passed at this time.  Connie was very selfless and giving person. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She cherished all of the relationships she shared with all of her friends.

She will be missed most of all by her loving family, son, Jim Shaw (Colleen); daughter, Kelly Terris (Terry); and daughter, Paula Shaw (Randy Fisher); grandchildren, Joe Shaw (Jessica), John Shaw (Jenna Young), James Shaw (Anne Marie Campbell) and Sarah Shaw; and great-grandson, Owen Shaw.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit.

Many thanks to the staff at Vimy Court for the care and comfort provided during this difficult time.

A celebration of Connie’s life will take place on Sunday, December 29, at 3 p.m., in First United Church, Truro, with a reception to follow in the church hall. She will be returning to her beloved Cape Breton, to be laid to rest with her husband and parents.

Doris Pearl (Hoyt) Archibald

Archibald (Hoyt), Doris Pearl - Age 80. Our hearts are broken as we say goodbye to our beloved Doris "Dolly/Queenie". She passed away peacefully at home on December 8, 2024.

Born in Truro, NS, she was a daughter of the late Melnor and Florence Hoyt, Central Onslow, NS.

Through the years Doris worked at Moore's IGA, babysat many kids while living in Prince George, BC and ended her customer service career at Canadian Tire where she retired after 29 years of service in 2010.

During her retirement, she enjoyed travelling with Sterling and spending peaceful days in New Harbour, watching the boats go by. She cherished the friendships she made there, enjoyed the adventures going four-wheeling, and loved gathering around the campfire. With her love for flowers and gardening, she took delight in sprucing up Stu’s place, even though he told her he didn’t need the weeds. Her dogs, Molly and Chico were deeply loved by her, and she made it a point to spoil them at every opportunity. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy, and she treasured every moment she spent with them. She found immense joy in the love of her family and the company of friends. Those who knew her will remember how her infectious smile could light up any room. She was a champion marbles player, loved to dance and listen to music. When the music came on, she couldn’t help but move- her feet danced, and her hands clapped in perfect time with the beat.

Doris was a loving mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by her partner, Sterling Luddington; daughters, Angela (James) Porter, Lori Ann (Dana) Henderson; son-in-law, Bob White; Sterling’s children, Callee (Alan) Robinson, Tim (Morgan) Luddington; grandchildren, Connor White (Eryn), Hannah Porter (James and his daughter Ellie), Haylee Porter (Keith), Mya and John Luddington, AJ and Watson Robinson.

Also surviving are her sister, Carol Blois; brothers, Frank Hoyt and Ronald (Kathy) Hoyt; sisters-in-law, Gloria Elliott, Valerie Tucker, Tami (Jamie) Canning; brothers-in-law, Gary (Judy)Archibald, Alan (Linda) Archibald and many nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, Doris was predeceased by her loving husband and best friend, William (Bill) Archibald; brother, Kenny (Weaty) Hoyt; brothers-in-law, Wayne Blois, Wayne Elliott and Al Tucker; sister-in-law, Joan Hoyt; niece, Janet Richardson and nephew, Nathan Archibald.

Our mom would want us to express a special thank you to VON home care for their kindness and support and to Mary Pettipas, Blake Archibald, Dr. Smith and Dr. Henderson of the Palliative Care Team.  Your thoughtfulness and care did not go unnoticed. Also, to her lifelong friend, Judy Devouge who helped us care for mom over the last year.

Cremation has taken place and as per her request there will be no visitation.  A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, December 16, 2024, in The Peg, 10675 Hwy 2, Masstown, NS from 2 to 4 p.m.

Christmas was her favorite time of year so if desired, please bring any kind of an ornament to place on her Christmas tree.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice in Doris' memory.

Stanley Edson Stevens

Stevens, Stanley Edson – The family of Stanley Edson Stevens are sad to announce his peaceful passing on December 5, 2024, at age 80, in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro.

Stan is survived by wife, Marilyn (Watson); children, Wendy Williams (David), Marlene Meers (David), James Stevens (Julie Coleman); seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters, Diana Hanley (Doug), Barbara Miller, Brenda Boutilier; brother, Terry Stevens (Cheryl Beaton); several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by son, Mark; parents, Edson and Ruth (Eisan) Stevens; brothers, Kevin, Eldon and Carl.

Over the years, Stan enjoyed building furniture, carving his special eagles, playing guitar, listening to country music, and watching curling and baseball.

Many thanks to VON homecare and nursing staff, Dr. Armstrong and the palliative care nurses. Special thanks to neighbors and friends over the past two years.

A family graveside burial will be held in Middle Stewiacke Cemetery.

Daniel Philip MacKenzie

MacKenzie, Daniel Philip – Age 64, of Stewiacke, passed away December 1, 2024 in QEII Infirmary Site, Halifax.

Born in Truro, he was a son of the late Carl and Hilda (Smith) MacKenzie.

Danny enjoyed the simplistic life and was a jack-of-all-trades. He was known to be a keeper of trinkets, enjoyed TV Bingo, bass fishing, junk food and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed Sunday drives with his wife, Brenda who was the love of his life, always stopping along the way for a snack.

He will always be loved and missed by his sons, Daniel (Amy), Phil (Jenna), Mike (Lindsay), Josh (Rachelle), Steve (Chelsea); grandchildren, Kaleb, Logan, Leah, Hunter, Xavier, Talon, Ashton, Reid, Stevie, Dani; siblings, Alfred, Alice, Scotty and Cindy; numerous nieces and nephews.

Danny was predeceased by his wife, Brenda (MacDonnell); siblings, Pat, Bobby and Pansy.

Cremation has taken place.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Stewiacke Legion on January 25, 2025, 1-3 p.m. A private burial will be held for Danny and Brenda at a later date.

Patrick Daniel Pittman

Pittman, Patrick Daniel – Age 54, passed away on November 29, 2024 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro.

Pat was a roofer by trade and a skilled ironworker making swords, knives and axes.

He will be sadly missed by his mom, Barbara Pittman; stepdad, Curtis Gale; partner, Tanya; children, Kali, Aric and their mother; brother, David (Annette); two granddaughters; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother, John; sister, Helen; and his biological father.

A Celebration of Life will be held on December 8 from 2-4 p.m. at Barb and Curtis’s home.

Price, Bernard Douglas – age 82, of Dean, passed away November 25, 2024 in QEII Infirmary Site, Halifax.

Born in Newton Mills, he was a son of the late Stanley and Annie (Ross) Price.

Surviving are his wife, Bonnie; son, John (Glory); daughter, Stephanie (Lawrence); grandson, Anthony (Danielle); stepdaughter, Tamara (Colin); sisters, Susan (John) and Sandra.

He was predeceased by brothers, Richard “Dick”, Elroy, Dexter, Stephen; sister, Shirley; and stepson, John.

Cremation has taken place.

A private graveside service will be held in Dean Cemetery with Rev. David LeBlanc officiating.

Robert "Bobby" Earl Bartlett

Bartlett, Robert “Bobby” Earl – Age 76, of Truro, passed away November 25, 2024 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro.

Born in Truro, he was a son of the late Earl and Minnie Bartlett.

Bobby had been an employee of Stanfield’s Ltd. for 55 plus years.

Wyman "Oxie" Gordon Jordan

Jordan, Wyman “Oxie” Gordon – Age 70, of Dutch Settlement passed away November 25, 2024 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro.

Born in Dutch Settlement, he was a son of the late Gordon and Dorothea “Doll” (Hines) Jordan.

Oxie spent 50 years of his working life as a brick layer. He was a volunteer firefighter in Dutch Settlement for 20 years, serving 9 years as the Chief. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time at his cottage.

Surviving are his children, Vincent (Ksenia), Brian, Alicia (Adam) Bearfoot and their daughter, Freyja; siblings, Christine Brown, Dirwood “Dirk”; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by sister, Carolyn “Pip” (Kirk) Myers.

Cremation has taken place.

A graveside service will be held at St. George’s Columbarium, Dutch Settlement on Friday, November 29 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Jane Magrath officiating.

Helen "Bernice" Murphy

Murphy, Helen “Bernice” - Murphy, Helen “Bernice” of Lantz, Nova Scotia, passed away November 23, 2024 after a fifteen-year courageous fight with cancer at the age of 88. She was born in Harewood, New Brunswick and spent her younger years in that area. She later moved to Moncton to look after children while their parents worked. In her late teens she moved to Toronto where she spent a few years working at Loblaw’s Groceteria. After returning to New Brunswick, she worked doing house cleaning and later became manager of Atlantic Salvage where she looked after the staff, the pricing and did the warehouse shipping and receiving. In 1992 she moved to Lantz, Nova Scotia with her husband, Jerry and spent a few years working for the Air Nova Cafeteria before retirement.

Bernice was an avid music fan.  She and her husband, Jerry travelled across the Maritimes and Eastern US attending countless Bluegrass Music Festivals, Music Jams, and live music events. She was a member of the Southeastern New Brunswick Bluegrass and Oldtime Music Association, and a founding member of the East Hants Bluegrass and Oldtime Music Association.  In addition to serving on the board of Directors as Membership Chair of the East Hants Club, she volunteered at various musical events including the Milford Coffeehouse, the Milford Meltdown Classic Country Jamboree, various festivals around the Maritimes, and became very involved in fundraising including the Ways and Means booth at New Brunswick festivals. She could always be seen helping at club events with set up, clean-up, etc. and always lending a hand wherever required. Besides the music events in her life, she also found time to be a working member of the local Home and School and Recreation Association. She received many Volunteer awards in both New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. Bernice was known to be a bit of a jokester as well, playing pranks and often on the receiving end which she embraced proudly.

Bernice made many friends over the years in everything she was involved in, and she liked to say her Bluegrass Family, her Church Family, and her Nova Scotia Country Music Hall of Fame family were an extension of her own family.

Bernice was a devoted wife to Jerry for over 44 years.  She treasured all their great memories together from early days in their 69 Montego convertible, camping in their hardtop camper in the 80s to the upgrade of their luxury travel trailer.  She often spoke about a treasured trip to Nashville she and Jerry made on their 25th wedding anniversary. She loved and cherished her family. She looked forward to the family washer toss tournaments, Christmas gatherings and birthday celebrations. She supported and loved her seven children unconditionally.  

Bernice is survived by her husband, Gerald “Jerry”; daughters, Debbie, Darlene (Ted), Sandra (Bill) and Carolyn (Mike); sons, Steven (Brenda) and Allen (Judy); sister, Eileen; stepchildren, Mike (Lynn), Kim, Reg (Peggy) Roger (Jill); son-in-law, Donnie Stevens; as well as 24 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Geraldine and Clarence Wilson; her daughter, June Edgar; sister, Joan Dean; and brothers, Walter Wilson, Jack Wilson and Lester Wilson.

The family would like to thank the Nursing staff, the team of doctors, and the Hospice Volunteers who did baking, visited patients and families or just sat with patients if required in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro during Bernice’s stay in both 3D and 3E Palliative Care for the fabulous care and kindness provided to her and her family.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Arimathea Funeral Cooperative.

As per Bernice’s request, there will not be a visitation or funeral service held. Cremation has taken place and a burial will be in Fair Haven Memorial Gardens, Moncton.  Her Celebration of Life will be held later. Donations in her memory to Canadian Cancer Society, the Milford Lantz United Church, c/o Treasurer, 2134 Highway 2, Box 73, Milford, NS B0N 1Y0 or to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.

George Carl Ross

Ross, George Carl – The death of George Carl Ross occurred in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro on November 20, 2024 in the Palliative Care Ward.

Carl was born in 1932 in New Glasgow, the eldest of a family of twelve to his parents, the late George Neil Ross and Mary Hazel (Arthur).

He spent his early years in Pleasant Valley, Pictou County where he attended school and made many lifelong friends. The family then relocated to Alma in 1950.

His work life began in local sawmills and he was employed by CNR as a fireman on the steam locomotives. He was a driver for the former Acadia Bus Line. The remainder of work life before retiring was in long haul transport for various companies, lastly with Eastern Transport.

He was a long-time member of St. David’s United Church in Bible Hill where he served as an elder. He was a retired member of Bible Hill Fire Brigade. He and his wife, Caroline were avid bowlers.

Carl is survived by his sisters, Dorothy (Eustace), Reeves, PEI; Diane (James) Ross, Iron Rock; Marilyn Renshaw, Saint John, NB; Shirley MacConnell, Scotsburn: Elaine (Bruce) Lewis, Ottawa; Beverly (Fred) Cameron, Chance Harbour; and brothers, James (Irene), Toronto; Burt (Grace), Alma; Donald, Anderson’s Mountain; William, Alma; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Caroline (Sutherland); brother, Fraser (Paulette); infant brother, Clarence Norman and a sister in infancy.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative.

A graveside committal service will be held in Bible Hill Cemetery on November 30 at 11:30 a.m.

Carl’s family are deeply appreciative of the following: Mike and Bonnie MacSwain – his guardian angels, Marty and Audrey MacLean, all of the many VON nurses, his friends, Paul Harris, Zelda and Wayne Gosbee and their family for being there for him in his final days. To Dr. Amanda Webster and her staff at Village Physicians Medical Practice our deepest gratitude for the care and concern shown for our brother. To all departments of the hospital and staff who work in them, we are so very thankful and to the staff of Fraser’s Guardian Drug Store and to Mary Pettipas, Palliative Care Nurse. William "Bill" John Dickeson

Dickeson, William “Bill” John - Age 85, of Bible Hill, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2024, in Gables Lodge, Amherst. Born in Taxis River, New Brunswick, he was a son of the late Herbert and Georgina (Russell) Dickeson.

He will be missed always by his children, Patti, Will (Jolee) and Greg; grandchildren, Lev, Simone, Mila, Julie, Asha and Barry; sister, Marjorie Landry; brother-in-law, Allison Newey; several nephews.

Besides his parents, Bill was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Louise; brother-in-law, Raymond Landry; brother-in-law, Thomas Newey.

Bill graduated from New Brunswick Technical Institute, Moncton, with a diploma in Architectural Drafting. He began his career as a draftsman working with Truro architect Robert Cassidy and then later with Kent Homes and Engineering Inspectors & Designers (EID). Before his retirement, he was self-employed. Bill was proud of the projects he was involved in such as the former Colchester-East Hants Library, and the Empire Theatres chain (although being so modest, he did not talk about his achievements readily). Loyal, hard-working and honest, his work ethic was exceptional. Bill was also skilled in carpentry and woodworking. Whether he was building a deck or making miniature bird houses, the same careful precision and attention to detail would be there. Bill’s greatest joy was his family-his children, his grandchildren, and his beloved Louise. Some of their favourite things to do together were taking walks through “The Village”, going on Sunday drives, attending Berwick Camp, and visiting their grandchildren. She was the love of his life and their devotion to one another lasted a lifetime. Bill was also a long-time member of St. David’s United Church, Bible Hill, serving on the Board of Stewards, the Property Committee, Men’s Club, and lending a hand at many church events.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 pm on Monday, December 2 in Brunswick Street United Church, 250 Brunswick St., Truro. A memorial service will also take place in Brunswick Street United at 11 am on Tuesday, December 3 with Reverend April Hart officiating. Burial will be in Bible Hill Cemetery.

Memorial donations in Bill’s name may be made to The United Church of Canada’s Mission and Service fund, Colchester East Hants Health Centre Foundation, Alzheimer Society of N.S., or a charity of one’s choice.

W. Keith MacKenzie

MacKenzie, W. Keith - It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Keith, age 80, on November 14, 2024 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre with his loving family by his side. Born in Truro, Keith was the only son of the late Hilda (Corbett) and Carl MacKenzie.

He is survived by his wife, Dianne; children, Aaron MacKenzie and Andrea (JP) Ashton; grandchildren, Hayden MacKenzie and Maxwell and Carlie Ashton; stepchildren, Kevin (Rebecca) Thompson and Calvin (Rica) Thompson; step-grandchildren, Ava, Anna, Ariella, and Matthew Thompson and Timothy and Zyron Thompson.

A lifelong educator and sports enthusiast, Keith’s career was dedicated to both teaching and coaching. He held a Bachelor of Education in Physical Education from the University of New Brunswick and Master’s Degree from Saint Mary’s University. Following his graduation from UNB in 1966 he headed back to Nova Scotia and to South Colchester Academy, where his teaching career began. From there, he went on to Cobequid Educational Centre where he became the school’s first athletic director and coached the football and basketball teams to many provincial championships over the years. He moved on to Truro Junior High in 1985 as Vice-Principal and then Principal. After retiring, he served on the Chignecto Central Regional School Board for many years, and retired as Vice-Chair.

Well known for his contributions to sports, some highlights include induction to the NS Sports Hall of Fame and Colchester Sports Hall of Fame, founder and coach of the Colchester Oldtimers Hockey League and Men’s Slo-pitch league, President of the Junior A Bearcats, Vice President of the Senior TSN Bearcats, lifetime member of the Fundy Umpires Association, 1st Coach of the Year Basketball Nova Scotia (1979), and Football Canada Award of Merit (1990).

Keith enjoyed a lively debate over politics and sports (particularly his Habs), humming a tune only he knew, and creating a nickname for anyone and everyone. He loved spending his winters in Florida with Dianne and summers at the cottage in Bass River. Keith was fiercely proud of his grandchildren and their academic and extracurricular endeavours. Though humble about his own achievements, Keith’s impact on those he coached and mentored is immeasurable, and his legacy will live on through them.

Funeral Service will take place on Wednesday, November 20 at 1 p.m. in St. James Presbyterian Church, 725 Prince Street, Truro with Rev. Andrew Campbell officiating. A reception will follow after the service and all are welcome to come, share stories, and celebrate Keith’s life.
