Falkenham, Kenneth Ernest – Age 86 of Enfield and formerly of Nine Mile River passed away January 23, 2025 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro.

Gaetz, Scott Andrew Roy - It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Scott Andrew Roy Gaetz, at the age of 54.
He was a son of Derek Gaetz and Lorraine Power-Homans.
Scott leaves behind his children, Magen Matthews, Scott Matthews, Seth Gaetz, and Noah Perry; grandchildren, Chase and Jaden; sister, Amy Amirault (Allison); brother, Jamie Gaetz (Jessie); nieces and nephews, Austin, Dylan, Kaylie and Amelia.
Scott was predeceased by his stepfather, Gerald Homans; stepbrother, Arthur Homans; and his son, Cody Gaetz.
Scott attended Eastern Shore District High School, Prince Andrew High School and Red Deer College. He went on to study at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology and became MEO certified. During his life, Scott enjoyed a variety of different work titles including pipefitter, industrial insulator, national certified safety officer, heavy equipment operator and lobster boat deck hand.
Scott has touched many lives over the years and will be greatly missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Rolfe Ronald Clark Jr.
Clark, Rolfe Ronald Jr. – It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Rolfe Ronald Clark Jr. of Porters Lake on Monday, February 17, 2025 at the age of 73. Born in St. Stephen, NB to Rolfe and Faye Clark, he was always proud of his New Brunswick roots. He was a graduate of Prince Andrew High School in Dartmouth.
In 1981, Rolfe married the love of his life, Lois Morash, and in 1984, they welcomed their cherished daughter, Laura. His family was his greatest joy, and he was a devoted husband, father, and later a proud father-in-law to Matthew Bracegirdle.
Rolfe is survived by his parents, Rolfe and Faye Clark, Dartmouth; his loving wife, Lois; daughter, Laura and son-in-law, Matthew Bracegirdle, East Lawrencetown; his sister, Wendy Giles, Dartmouth; and his brother, Robert (Dana), Kingston, NS. He will also be deeply missed by his brothers-in-law, Ross (Sandra) Morash and Roy Morash, Porters Lake; and Leonard (Linda) Pankratz, Orland, CA. His nephews, Andrew and Michael Morash, Joe Giles and Cole Clark; as well as nieces, Becky Lind and Madison Hasbini will always remember him fondly. Rolfe was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Ronnie Giles and sister-in-law, Cathy Starr.
Rolfe dedicated 35 years of service to the Department of National Defence before retiring in 2011. In his well-earned retirement, he enjoyed life’s simple pleasures: a good western novel, a Nine Locks IPA, breakfast at the Micmac Tavern, and rewatching classic TV sitcoms and every John Wayne western ever made. Throughout his life, he made many lasting friendships. Though he didn’t like to fly, he and Lois spent countless wonderful times in New England, with Stowe, Vermont holding a special place in his heart.
A lifelong sports fan, Rolfe passionately followed the Detroit Red Wings, the Dallas Cowboys, and Arsenal Football Club. He had an eclectic taste in music, with a deep appreciation for Jimmy Buffett, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Marshall Tucker. His love for animals was evident in the way he cared for his beloved cats – Suzy, Jack and Frost - and his backyard chipmunks, all of whom he affectionately named Alice.
Rolfe’s generosity extended beyond his lifetime, with the donation of his corneas for transplant use. His family extends their heartfelt gratitude to EHS, Chezzetcook Fire Department, the Emergency Department in Dartmouth General Hospital and the Coronary Care Unit, Level 6, in Halifax Infirmary for their compassionate care.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative.
A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date, where friends and family will gather to honor and remember a man who touched so many lives.
Rolfe will be forever loved and missed.

Blanche Elizabeth Cook
Cook, Blanche Elizabeth - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Blanche Elizabeth Cook of Brookside, Nova Scotia. Blanche passed away surrounded by loved ones on February 15, 2025 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro.
Born in Nuttby Mountain, Nova Scotia, Blanche was the third of ten children born to the late Robert and Daisy Stewart of Earltown, NS. Blanche started working at Stanfields when she was 15 and enjoyed many years there. She often spoke fondly of her time at Stanfields and even played on their ball team.
In 1969, she met her husband, James Cook; they married in 1975 and raised three daughters together in Nuttby, Nova Scotia.
Blanche served as a member of the North River Fire Brigade Ladies Auxiliary. She loved knitting, sewing, camping, playing crib, breakfast at Fletchers, going for Sunday drives with James, and dancing; she could polka with the best of them. Blanche loved country music and particularly enjoyed Hank Williams and Vince Gill. She always enjoyed telling the story of chasing Vince‘s bus down and getting a hug and picture with the singer. Blanche spoke often of how proud she was of her daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren, great-granddaughters, and enjoyed spending time with them.
Blanche was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Daisy Stewart. Blanche is survived by her loving husband, James Cook, Brookside, NS; daughters, Darlene (David) Bell, Harvey Station, NB; Patty (Larry) Joynes, Bellisle Creek, NB; Cindy (Alan) Charter, Upper North River, NS; grandchildren, Daniel (Chelsey), Anthony (Nicole), Sarah, Amanda, Taylor (Dan), Connor; great-granddaughters, Addison, Evelyn, and Aria; sisters, Dorothy Works, Evelyn Blenkhorn, Sharon Cook, Shirley (Bobby) Marshall, June Shipley; brothers, Alex Stewart, Bobby (Marlene) Stewart, David (Karen) Stewart; and many nieces and nephews.
Anyone who knew her knew how much she loved her fur babies, Zack and Zoey. We are positive she is with them now, taking them for walks and feeding them whatever she damn well pleases.
Special thanks to the Colchester East Hants Hospice Society and the nurses and CCA staff in D3 and E3 of the Colchester East Hants Health Centre. They took such good care of her and did their best to keep her comfortable until the end.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 1st at 2 p.m. in North River Fire Hall, 74 Truro Road, North River. There will be refreshments served afterward.

Robert "Bob" Alexander MacLean
MacLean, Robert Alexander - Robert “Bob” Alexander MacLean, 1949 – 2025, of Wentworth, Nova Scotia, died with his wife at his side, on Friday, February 14, 2025 in Lillian Fraser Hospital, Tatamagouche.
Born in Truro, he was the youngest son of Jack and Ada (Retson) MacLean.
He is predeceased by his parents; tragically by two of his children, Andy, and Ali Brown; brothers, Jerry and Don; sister, Sally; nephew, Scotty; and brothers-in-law, Art and Frank.
He is survived by loving wife, Marilyn (Jollymore); son, Paul (Melissa), Quincy, Massachusetts; brother, John (Karen), Bible Hill; grandchildren, Quin and Isla MacLean, Quincy; Emma and Mya Brown, Truro; daughter-in-law, Nia, Montreal; step-children, Johanna (Saxton), Chris and Matt Grant, Truro; step-grandchildren, Bella and Tim (Murdock), Emily and Weston Grant; and many nieces and nephews.
Bob worked for the Department of Transportation for over thirty years, surveying in Halifax County for thirteen years, and then as Maintenance Supervisor for the Cobequid Pass for seventeen years. Bob had many and varied interests, including ATV trips, fishing, and playing cards. He enjoyed volunteering as a Cub leader for seven years, as a ball league representative for twelve years and, more recently, as a committee member, president, and passionate ambassador of the Wentworth Recreation Centre for the past fifteen years.
For all who knew Bob, nothing compared to the joy and pride he felt when his children and grandchildren would “give it their all” whether it was in gymnastics, swimming, singing or just visiting. Their success was his success.
Bob was very proud of his Scottish ancestry and his trip to Scotland, in 2014, with sister, Sally; niece, Cheryl; and grand-niece, Jackie will remain one of the highlights of his life.

Jodrey, Ruby Marguerite “Marg” (Spears) – of Carrolls Corner, passed away February 12, 2025 in Magnolia Continuing Care, Enfield just days short of her 94th birthday.
Born in Spanish Ship Bay, she was a daughter of the late Lowell and Margaret (Hartling) Spears.
Marg was known as a great cook, an avid craftsperson and enjoyed hunting, fishing and time spent with family.
Surviving are her children, Gary (Debbie), Carrolls Corner; Daniel (Shirley), BC; Marie (John), Stewiacke; Rosealie (Brian), Carrolls Corner; Gaile, Stewiacke; special granddaughter, Tammy (Ian), Middle Sackville. She had 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers, Clyde, Burlington, ON and Robert, Chilliwack, BC.
She was predeceased by her husband, Roy; son, David; brothers, Kenneth, William, Edwin, Keith, Leonard; sisters-in-law, Madeline, Juanita, Mary and Florence.

Donna Mae Baker
Baker, Donna Mae - It is with great sadness that the family of Donna Mae Baker announce her passing on February 11th, 2025 at the age of 60. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering dedication.
Donna was born to Harold and Ruby Pearl (Cooper) Baker.
As the youngest of nine siblings, she often found ways to stand out and make her mark. Growing up in East Jeddore, she was the cherished baby of the family, and she often joked that her parents saved the best for last. Donna met the love of her life, Michael, in high school when she spotted him hanging out with her older brother. Their connection was instant, and they married in 1988, beginning a beautiful 37year journey filled with love, laughter, and shared memories. Together, they built their family home and raised two wonderful sons, creating a life full of warmth and cherished moments. After graduating high school, Donna pursued further education at community college and took on several leadership roles at Reitmans before embarking on her long and fulfilling career with RBC. Over the span of 34 years, she worked in various roles at the Musquodoboit Harbour and Porters Lake branches, eventually becoming branch manager. Donna was a beloved colleague, known for her strong leadership, genuine care for others, and her ability to make everyone feel valued. She led with pride, positivity, and a competitive spirit, always putting her clients first and treating them like family. As a loving mother and dedicated community member, Donna was generous with her time and energy. She volunteered as a Sunday school teacher, Cubs leader, and hockey manager, and she served as treasurer and registrar for the local hockey league. Whether her sons were involved in a sport or an activity, Donna was there every step of the way, offering her unwavering support. Her commitment to others extended beyond her family to causes like the IWK, the Children's Wish Foundation, and numerous other local charities. Above all, Donna's family and friends were her world. She treasured every moment with them, creating lasting memories through beach or lake days, camping trips, travelling, girls weekends, get-togethers, baking, spending time with her grandchildren, or simple moments around the campfire. Her positive, fun, and outgoing personality, her competitive spirit, and her deep love for those close to her will be remembered by all who knew her. Donna's ability to make everyone feel welcomed and loved is a gift that will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
Donna is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Michael; beloved children, Cody (Daniella) Baker and Brett (Katherine) Baker; cherished grandchildren, Beau, Blake, Rosalia and baby to be; mother, Ruby Pearl Baker; siblings, Rose Baker, Florence (Peter) Wallis, Harold (Louise) Baker, Wyman (Joanne) Baker, Elaine (Dennis) Perry, Janette (David) Faulkner, Glenda (Chris) Perry, Darren (Barb) Baker; as well as many generations of nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative. Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 18th, 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm in Woodlawn United Church, 54 Woodlawn Road, Dartmouth. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 19th at 11:00 am in the same location.

Glen Louis Newman
Newman, Glen Louis – Age 94 of Milford, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2025 surrounded by his family.
Born in Carrolls Corner, he was a son of the late James and Winnifred Newman.
Glen had been employed with Maritime Tel and Tel for 37 years and enjoyed 37 years of retirement. He was a great gardener, sharing his bounty with everyone. He grew the best peaches and he made apple pies for all his family and friends at Christmas. Glen loved the time spent at his cottage in Cooks Lake and looked forward to being there from one year to another. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Glen will always be loved and missed by his daughter, Valerie (Kevin Huntley); son, Daryl (Linda); grandchildren, Erica (Jean-Francois) Boucher; Christopher Newman (Gillian Allan); Paxton Huntley, Leeim (Brenda) Huntley; great-grandchildren, Oscar and Farrah Huntley; Atlas Huntley and Noah Boucher; sisters-in-law, Sheila and Shirley Newman; several nieces and nephews.

Patricia Ann Young
Young, Patricia Ann - Age 91, of East Petpeswick, passed away peacefully at home on February 9, 2025.
Born to the late Frank and Gertrude (Williams) Bateman, Patricia was predeceased by her sister, Elizabeth (Betty) Truen; her beloved husband, Merlin Young; son-in-law, Tom Shears; and daughter-in-law, Kim Young.
A devoted mother, Patricia often balanced family life alone while Merlin was at sea. She raised her children with love, resilience, and—when necessary—a well-placed yardstick. She worked outside the home for several years, including at IGA Porters Lake and the Staples Save Easy in the Harbour.
Patricia had a deep love for gatherings, whether it was lively Sunday night suppers with her family or celebrations with friends. She was an exceptional cook, known for her famous seafood chowder and mustard pickles. In later years, she found joy in watching the lobster boats from her window, keeping an eye on "the boys" as they worked the waters, and admiring the lights from the herring fishers at night. Tuesdays were reserved for her hair appointments, a tradition she never missed. She cherished surprise visits from friends and neighbors, which always brightened her day.
Patricia’s family extends heartfelt thanks to the many friends and caregivers who supported her—your kindness and care were deeply appreciated.
She is lovingly remembered by her children, Cheryl Young Shears, Michael “Mike” Young and his partner, Tomi, and Timothy “Tim” Young. She leaves behind her grandchildren, Amanda Olesen, Ashley McDonald, and Tyler Young, as well as step-grandsons, Devon Morash, Kyle Findlay, and Kane Findlay. She was a proud great-grandmother to Annabella, Sophie, and Chase (Chessie). Patricia’s loyal companion, Shelby, remained by her side until the end.
A life well-lived and filled with love, Patricia will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Clara K. (McCurdy) Kidson
Kidson, Clara K. (McCurdy) - Age 102 of Lake Charlotte passed away on February 9, 2025.
Born in Middle Musquodoboit, she was a daughter of the late Robert S. and Jamesina (Moore) McCurdy. Her father died early in her life, so she and her two brothers, William and Samuel were brought up by a widowed mother. Clara was a graduate of Provincial Normal College, Truro, in 1941. She taught at 1 and 2-room schools in Lindsay Lake, Lake Charlotte, Musquodoboit South Section, Musquodoboit North Section and Black Point. She left teaching to become a full-time mother and homemaker, a vocation at which she excelled.
Surviving are sons, John (Heather) and Paul (Krista); daughters, Anita (Barry) Daye, Diana (Eddie), and Olga; 9 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and brother, William. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 42 years, James W.; son, James R. (Lynda); and daughter, Linda (Garry) Laybolt; brother, Samuel; half-sisters, Ada and Greta; and half-brother, Everett.
She enjoyed feeding/watching the birds, crosswords and reading. Church was an important part of her life; she was a member of the United Church and a Sunday School teacher for many years at Lake Charlotte Union Church.
The family thanks the many Home Care workers involved in her care over the past number of years, as well as the doctors, nurses, and staff at Twin Oaks Hospital. Thank you also to Arimathea Funeral Cooperative.

As per Clara’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A service will take place on Wednesday, February 19 at 11:00 a.m. in First United Church, Musquodoboit Harbour with Rev. Joan Griffin officiating. A private family committal will take place at a later date in Lake Charlotte Union Church Cemetery.

Hennigar, Cheryl Anne (Miller) – Age 73 of Noel, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2025 in Braeside Home for Special Care, Middle Musquodoboit.
Born in Sydney, she was a daughter of the late Keith and Frances (Kent) Miller.
Cheryl enjoyed cooking, baking, tole painting, cross-stitching, travelling and gardening. She will always be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
She will always be loved and missed by her husband of 52 years, Marven; son, Joel (Arilea) and their son, Daegan; daughter, Shannon; brothers, Kirk (Melinda), Sandy (Wendy), Todd (Monique); several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by brother, Stevie Miller; father and mother-in-law, Foster and Madelon Hennigar; and brother-in-law, Alvin in infancy.

Patricia Mary Osborne
Osborne, Patricia Mary - We are deeply saddened to announce that our beloved sister, Pat, age 66, passed away on February 2, 2025, in QEII Infirmary, Halifax, after fighting a sudden cardiac arrest. Pattie was born in Enfield, Nova Scotia, to Harold and Elsie (Garden) Osborne. Pat was a wonderful sister, aunt, and friend to many.
Pattie was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Rick Osborne; and her sister-in-law, Mary Osborne.
Pattie will be lovingly remembered by her sisters, Sarah Osborne, Nina (Donald) Ashley, Kelly (Mark) Richardson; brothers, Hal (Wanda) Osborne, Walt Osborne, Alf Osborne; nieces and nephews, Jason, Nolan, Ryan (Angela), Meghan, Jordan (Alli), Robyn (Kerr), Molly, and Morgan; many great nieces and nephews; family friend, Carla Mosher; and many life-long friends.
Pat was a devoted walker, getting up early every morning and walking the sidewalks of Enfield before most of the village was awake. She was a regular at Monday night Bingo at the fire hall and was usually on a lucky streak. Pattie enjoyed visiting her sister and brother-in-law in New Brunswick, spending much of her time out at the camp or enjoying the view of the lake from the veranda. Pat and her brother, Alf, kept track of the many birthdays in the big Osborne family and always reminded everyone when their birthday was coming up. She cared deeply about her family and enjoyed spending as much time with them as she could. Pat was considered the family historian, who kept all their childhood photos, and would often bring them out to cherish the good old times when her siblings gathered. Pattie loved children and especially loved taking care of all her nieces and nephews, and then their children. She was often heard telling each of them that they were “her favourite”. She kept their artwork and photos on display in her house to brag to all who visited.
Taking after her father, Pattie was a passionate Montreal Canadiens fan. She loved country music, listening to Saturday Night Classics on the radio every week. Pattie loved the simple things in life like family gatherings, hummingbirds, cardinals, the full moon, finding coins on her walks, playing solitaire, listening to the peepers on spring evenings, and knitting dish cloths for family and friends. Pattie celebrated life and enjoyed decorating for each holiday, a beautiful display in her living room window for all who drove past.
The family wants to extend a heartfelt thank you to the first responders at the Enfield Volunteer Fire Department, the paramedics, Dr. Pickard and her team at the QEII (especially to RN, Jarrett) for their incredible care of Pattie.
A Celebration of Pattie’s life will be held on February 9, 2-4 p.m. in Enfield Volunteer Fire Hall.

Shirley Marie (Grant) Bell
Bell, Shirley Marie (Grant) - of Hilden, passed away January 31, 2025 peacefully at home. Our Mother was born in Patrolia, Ontario to Lillian (Lee) and Gordon Grant at the onset of the Great Depression, eldest of 13 siblings. The days of Bonnie & Clyde, Al Capone, Amelia Earhart’s ill-fated flight, onset of WW2 and terrible hardship, these were the early years of Shirley Marie Grant. By the latter part of the decade, Shirley was doing responsibilities of adults with chores at home that included looking after her younger siblings, taking them on the buckboard to town when picking up supplies and helping with their needs all before the age of 10. During this decade, basic radio was the entertainment, no autos, no phone, no TV, no indoor plumbing, no time for a child’s life.
He life in the 40’s, attack on Pearl Harbour, rations at home, end of the war, first phone at home, Ed Sullivan, cold war and fear of nuclear attack. Finishing grade 12 at 17 years old, after skipping grade 5, Shirley wished to pursue university or college but it was not in the cards. Married at 18 and onto a fulltime job at a factory with much pay going into the household to help the family, and she had her first of six children.
Onto Shirley’s 20’s during the 50’s, Vietnam, Polio vaccine, colored TV, Elvis Presley, Berlin Wall built, iconic 50’s diners, drive ins, Civil Rights movement, and for Shirl, Dave and the three boys, a move to Nova Scotia to start a whole new life. This new life distanced her from family and friends, as the cost of flights and even long-distance phone calls were not affordable. Letters were the form of keeping in touch with her family.
Now in her 30’s during the 60’s, JFK elected, Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream”, women’s rights movement, Beatles, first man in space, Space Race, assassination of Martin Luther King, JFK and Robert Kennedy. Shirl and Dave had three more children for a family of eight, and in ‘63 they purchased a home in Hilden, a home in which they both lived and passed. Our mother loved her home and kept her furniture in pristine shape. We often joked about not being allowed on the couch even though it had protective plastic. We mused about sliding off on those special occasions that we were allowed on it. The reason for this was simply that she could only dream about having a home of her own but never believed it would someday happen.
While there are far more accomplishments, this is but a small glimpse into Shirley’s life. It has been said by some that Shirley’s thoughts were old fashioned. Of course they were! She was born in the 30’s, bygone days that were hard, unrelenting and very, very different. Days that tried your very sanity and soul, days that did not see you leave home with a down payment for a house or financial assistance from family. These were days that what you received was all that could be afforded, a wave and a good luck in life on your departure.
After moving to Nova Scotia, our mom worked at Ryans IGA, Moffatts and finished her career in property at Burchell MacDougall, at the age of 82. A capable, dedicated and hard worker, Shirley continuously strived to advance herself.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, David; daughter, Debbie; son, Wesley “Larry”; grandsons, Jeremy and Stephen; sisters, Dee Dee and Bev; brothers, Wilmer, Jim, Ken, Dave and Johnny.
She is survived by sons, Ron, Hilden; Paul (Cheryl), Ontario; Steve (Lori), Hilden; daughter, Stephanie (Gary), Hilden; 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Sharon (Jack), Ontario; Brenda (Ron), Ontario; brothers, Paul (Diane), Western Canada; Frank (Julie), Ontario; Rick, Ontario; several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Anita Fisher for her visits which Mom enjoyed. Also, a special thank you to Dr. Carmen Giacomantonio for the kindness and compassion show to Mom
Cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held at a later date.

Christopher Edward Connell
Connell, Christopher Edward - In loving memory of Christopher Edward Connell, we are saddened to announce his passing on January 25th, 2025.
Chris was a kind, caring man who held his loved ones close to his heart. He loved all animals, especially his beloved chihuahuas. Chris was a truck driver by trade, travelling all over Canada and the United States during his over 40 years of driving.
Chris is dearly loved and will live in our hearts and minds forever.

Reta Jane Hartlin
Hartlin, Reta Jane – The passing occurred of Reta Jane Hartlin of Middle Musquodoboit on January 24, 2025.
Born in Dean, she was a daughter of the late Aldwin and Janet Dean.
Reta was predeceased by her husband, Roy; siblings, Lloyd, Dorothy, Ruby, Ira, Stuart, Archibald, Aubrey, Milton, Elmer “Chester” and Kenny.
She is survived by her son, David (Kathy); daughters, Ann (Peter), Lisa (Danny); grandchildren, Morgan (Alecia), Nolan (Stef), Bonnie (Mike), Rosalie (Steve), Brett, Brant (Serene); and 16 great-grandchildren.
A heartfelt thank you to the staff of Braeside for all their care the last five years.
Reta was a homemaker since the age of 18. She enjoyed the outdoors and grandchildren have tales of fishing the Hogan Brook in Glenmore. The Halifax County Exhibition was a highlight of the year for both Mom and Dad and the grandchildren have fond memories of staying overnight and being well fed. She loved her animals and was distinguished as Chicken Grammy by her grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday in Wittenburg Baptist Church with Pastor Jonathan Cann officiating.
Funeral arrangements are in care of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative.

Ann (Laidlaw) Kruger-Baker
Kruger-Baker (Laidlaw), Ann - It is with great sadness that we, Ann’s family announce her passing on January 24, 2025.
Born in 1950, she was a daughter of the late Wilfred and Doris Laidlaw.
She will be missed by her devoted husband, Perry Baker; loving sons, Tim Kruger (Lori), Sackville, NS; Troy Kruger (Rhonda), Elmsdale; grandchildren, Jachin Kruger (Sarah), Hampton, NB; Levi Kruger, Sackville, NS; Shawna Maynard, Elmsdale; great-grandchildren, Marlow Lee Kruger and Ryker Manuel; siblings, Nancy Lake-Fahey, Selma, NS; Brent (Wendy), Rawdon, NS; Doris Musgrave, Dartmouth; Christine Withrow, Maitland, NS; and many special nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed and loved by Maggie, her beautiful fur baby for 14 years.
She was predeceased by siblings, Effie Awalt, Wilfred Laidlaw Jr. and twin brothers, Barry and Harry Laidlaw.

Kenneth Ernest Falkenham
Falkenham, Kenneth Ernest – Age 86 of Enfield and formerly of Nine Mile River passed away January 23, 2025 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro.
Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late Ernest and Mona (Mitchell) Falkenham.
Ken started his working career as a bricklayer and later as a candymaker with Moirs which was known as Hershey’s when he retired. He enjoyed curling, watching the Blue Jays and was an avid decorator for any holiday season.
Ken is survived by his wife of 62 years, Kay; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Theresa and Doug O’Neill; nieces, Bernadette O’Neill (Joe), Michele O’Neill (Dan); great-nieces, Alexa (Dujuan), Megan (Matt); four great great-nieces and one great great-nephew; and numerous cousins.
He was predeceased by his niece, Peggy O’Neill.
Cremation has taken place.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Burial will take place in Sand Hill Cemetery in the spring.

Norma Lois (Scothorn) Howlett
Howlett (Scothorn), Norma Lois - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mom, Norma Lois (Scothorn) Howlett at the age of 90 years. Mom passed away peacefully on January 21st, 2025 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro.
Born in 1934 to Reginald and Edna (Kelly) Scothorn in Nanaimo, B.C., Norma (known fondly to many as Nonnie), was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Mom enjoyed reminiscing and cherished her fond memories of growing up on the farm in Hardwoodlands. As a young woman, Norma proudly served in the Air Force as a supply technician before marrying Reginald Howlett. Mom spent many great years raising her children in Sept-Îles and Labrador City before settling back in Nova Scotia.
Throughout her life, mom had many hobbies. She enjoyed darts, bowling, camping, gardening, painting and gathering with friends at Tim Horton’s. Mom was always up for a game of crib and was a member of Elmsdale Legion Branch #48. Mom was a strong woman. She never shied away from a good political debate and was always ready to share her opinions. She believed in treating people with fairness and respect and taught her kids to always stand up for what’s right.
Mom will be lovingly missed by her children, Carol Longard (David), Marilyn Smith, Peter, Barb (Greg), Shannon (Abdullie); and her grandchildren, Nahla, Tariq and Safiya. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Gail Scothorn. Norma is predeceased by her parents, her husband of 53 years, Reginald; brother, Alfred (Jean); sister, Frances (Donnie); brother, John; and baby brother, Reginald.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at Colchester East Hants Health Centre and Magnolia Continuing Care for their care and compassion. We would also like to extend our deepest gratitude to mom’s honorary daughters, Kathleen, Mary and Margie.
A Celebration of mom’s Life will be held in Enfield Legion on Friday, January 24th from 12-3 p.m. Please join us in honoring mom’s memory and sharing stories of her life.

Joseph Ronald Marchand
Marchand, Joseph Ronald – Age 81 of Halifax, passed away January 21, 2025 at home.
Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Amedee and Stella (Sampson) Marchand.
Ron was a member of Local 56 Plumbers Union. He loved hunting, fishing and being in the outdoors.
He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will always be missed by children, Charlene (Craig), Stephen (Marie), Lisa; grandchildren, Thomas (Sonya), Chad (Cassandra), Samantha (Chris), Joseph (Leah), Amanda (Roger), Nicholas (Danielle), Sarah (Cameron), Riley, Shannon; 15 great-grandchildren; brothers, Doug (Donna), Gary (Bonnie); sisters, Betty, Diane, Jean (Clarence); and sister-in-law, Carol Ann.
He was predeceased by wife, Claudette; sisters, Evelyn (Basil); brothers, Carl (Verl), Ray (Joan), Roy; brothers-in-law, Bill and Arthur.
Cremation has taken place.
Funeral mass will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. in St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Lower Sackville.
Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to Lung Association of Nova Scotia.

Alexander Prior Crowe
Crowe, Alexander Prior - Passed away unexpectedly in his residence in Truro, on January 20, 2025 at the age of 74. Alex was predeceased by his father, Harry; mother, Laura (MacKay); and sister, Janice. He is survived by his siblings, Mary and Victor.
After graduating from the school in Stewiacke, he took a teaching course in Truro. He taught for a couple of years then went to work at the family store. He worked in a variety of stores, lastly at Margolians in Truro until it closed.
Alex loved music, taking lessons on piano and the bagpipes. His other passions were reading and meeting people.
There will be no funeral at this time.
