Brian Douglas Bauld

Bauld, Brian Douglas – The trout of White’s White Wilderness Area are breathing a sigh of relief as we sadly announce the death of Brian Douglas Bauld, on February 5th, 2026, surrounded by family, in Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital.
Born in Halifax, raised in Armdale, he was the son of the late H. S. Donald Bauld and Myrna (Hunter) Bauld. He graduated from Halifax West High School. During his school years, Brian’s love of hockey began and he was the youngest player in the notorious Suburban Hockey League for the Bay Road Rangers where he more than held his own. After studying Commerce at Dalhousie University, he joined his father in business, Bauld Agencies Ltd., as a sporting goods manufacturer’s agent, travelling the Atlantic Provinces for over 32 years. He truly valued his client relationships and became lifelong friends with many of his customers.
Brian was first and foremost an outdoorsman and avid sports fisherman. His passion for fly fishing took him to many salmon rivers throughout Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador. He relished fly fishing trout in lakes around the eastern shore of Nova Scotia above all.
In later years, Brian joined Stock Transportation as a driver, trainer, and safety supervisor before he retired in 2009 to devote his energies to his seaside property in East Jeddore.
Brian is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sandra (Mitchell) Bauld; daughters, Hali Bauld (Edward Parker) and Jodi Newland; grandson, Simon Rostis; brother, Donald Bauld (Xiaofei); sisters-in-law, Anne Bauld and Shirley Warner; aunts, Betty Freeman, Montreal; and Ann Hunter, Halifax; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
We acknowledge, with profound gratitude, the excellent and compassionate care of the Musquodoboit Harbour Continuing Care Nursing Team for 18 months; nurses of VGH Cancer Care 11th and 4th floor; Dr. N. Buckley (Dr. Baker-locum); Dr. J. Duplisea; Dr. J. Surujballi and Nurse Sarah (NSCC), and finally, the nursing staff and Dr. Cormier in Twin Oaks who provided care in his last days.
A time of remembrance will be held later in the spring.

William Charles Robert Joyce

Joyce, William Charles Robert – William Charles Robert Joyce, affectionately known as Chuck, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2026, at the age of 77. Born in Toronto, Ontario, Chuck lived a full and meaningful life marked by kindness, curiosity, faith, and an unwavering love for family and friends.

Chuck began his career conducting underground pipe inspections for Ontario Underwater Tele. This work led to an opportunity to relocate to Nova Scotia and help start a new business with Command Records Center. From there, he transitioned into medical sales, where he owned his own business and later worked with several medical imaging companies throughout Nova Scotia. Even after retirement, Chuck’s desire to remain active and continue helping others led him to work with the Commissionaires at Colchester East Hants Health Centre in Truro - a role he genuinely enjoyed.

Chuck had a mischievous smile and a quick sense of humor that instantly put people at ease. Helping others came naturally to him, and once you met Chuck, you had a friend for life.

Chuck was able to explore and grow his faith at Heritage Baptist Church, where the congregation became not just friends, but family. Their love, prayers, and steadfast support meant more to Chuck than words could express and provided tremendous comfort to both him and his wife throughout his illness.

He loved the outdoors—hunting, fishing, golfing with friends, gardening, and spending time in nature. He was an avid gardener and took great pride in his yard. Chuck also loved to tinker in his man cave, and if someone ever needed a tool or gadget, Chuck undoubtedly had it. His love for animals was evident throughout his life, as he shared his home with many beloved dogs, cats, and even miniature horses.

Travel was another passion Chuck shared with his wife Linda, and some of their fondest memories were made during the years they spent wintering in Florida together.

Chuck is survived by his devoted wife and the love of his life for 57 years, Linda Joyce; his son, Curtis Joyce (Donna); and his daughter, Tracy Collins (Stephen). He was a proud and loving grandfather to Cody Joyce, Taylor Ryan (Chris), Nick Collins, Rylee Collins, and Josh Collins; and a cherished great-grandfather to two great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his father, William Stanley Joyce; his mother, Mary Margaret (McComb) Joyce; and his sister, Nancy Joyce.

Funeral services will be held on February 12, 2026, in Heritage Baptist Church, Milford. Visitation will take place from 1:00–2:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service from 2:00–3:00 p.m. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Palliative Care Unit at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, especially Charlene, Mary Jane, Rebecca, and Melissa, for their compassion, kindness, and tender care shown to Chuck during his transition from this life.

Donations in Chuck’s memory may be made to Alzheimer Society.

Christina Chandra Kaulbach

Kaulbach, Christina Chandra – born in Regina, Saskatchewan, Chandra was a welcome surprise for her parents, Garry and Annie. Chandra was predeceased by her mother and leaves behind her father, Garry; brothers, Klay and Craig; uncles, aunts and cousins, as well the Mallia’s in Chetwynd and others across Canada.

Chandra grew up in Inuvik, NT. After grade 10, she attended Ste. Angela’s Academy in Prelate, Saskatchewan and furthered her education at St. Francis Xavier University, Antigonish and University of Northern British Columbia, Prince George. Her teaching began and ended in Chetwynd.

Teaching her students and her family were her life and love.

Chandra lost her brave battle with cancer after six years. She dealt with colon cancer and beat it, liver cancer and beat it… but cancer showing up in her lymph system was the battle she couldn’t win.

Chandra was so kind, so quirky and so full of love that she regularly burst forth with a flood of tears expressing the intensity of her emotions. She was so proud of her family, genuinely proud of each of her friends and so proud of the students she taught. She had an effect on most everyone.

Chandra was a talented artist creating imaginative and realistic images. Many made for family, coworkers and friends.

Chandra passed away in Truro on January 28, 2026, where her last two months were in the hospital for the doctors to control the severe pain she suffered from a ruptured spinal vertebrae. Unfortunately, all different cancer treatments failed. Chandra did not surrender to the cancer. During the last days, Chandra was not able to converse easily or often but she was able to let us know that she was still with us.

Christina Chandra is and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. With confidence we know the Lord Jesus has accepted her into heaven where she will be with her mother and other loved ones who have gone before her.

Rest in peace beautiful daughter, sister, friend and teacher.

Nicholas "Nick" Douglas Wade Lemmon

Lemmon, Nicholas Douglas Wade – It is with heavy hearts that we share that Nicholas Douglas Wade Lemmon, age 24 of Bible Hill, passed away peacefully at home on January 25, 2026. He was welcomed with open arms by his father, Douglas Wade Lemmon; paternal grandparents, Teresa Whidden and Ron Lemmon; maternal grandfather, Orie Isenor; and many great‑grandparents.

Nick was diagnosed with cancer two years ago, and he fought courageously through it all. When things took a turn, Nick’s only wish was to see Lake Louise with his buddies. With the support of many, he made that wish a reality and flew out to Banff, Alberta with his mom, brother, and friends in late September. He traveled back home across Canada with his mom and Aunt Cole, taking in every sight he had hoped to see.

He is survived by his mother, Janice (Isenor) Lemmon; brother, Eric Preiss, Shubenacadie; sister, Haley (Richard), New Brunswick; and his grandmother, Elizabeth Isenor “Grummy/Grum Grum.” He will also be deeply missed by Aunt Niccole (Jeff) Fancy, North River; Uncle David (Jen) Isenor, Fall River; Aunt Juanita “Pokey” (Tony) Wright, Truro Heights; Aunt Marsha McClellan, Valley; Aunt Jenny Whidden, Truro Heights; cousins, Kayla “Rabbit”, RJay, Mataya, Landyn, Jonas, Maren, Hollyand, and Elijah “Nugget”.

His closest friends—Branden, Jayden, Ryan, and Torro—were more like brothers to him. They stood by Nick and supported him through everything.

Nick was a particular guy in many ways. He liked what he liked, and when he didn’t, he made it known. He was a logical thinker, and when you sat down to talk with him, you felt how much he cared. He really listened. He told you what you needed to hear, not just what you wanted to hear. Humble to a fault, Nick was known for his sarcastic comments, quick wit, and his disregard for those who lacked common sense.

Nick loved to learn. He was the only guy who could get a 92% on a university paper for a class he wasn’t even enrolled in. He devoured information, reading about random topics and debating anyone willing to engage. He enjoyed educating himself through videos and was especially fond of Chef Pierre—even though he was no master chef. If you were lucky enough to try one of his specialty dishes (Mr. Noodles, pancakes, or scrambled eggs), you were brave.

Nick had a passion for football, baseball, and gaming. He played football all through his high‑school career with the CEC Football Team. He was an avid New York Giants fan (quote from Torro: “even though they were the worst team in the league”). When he wasn’t playing sports, he played video games online. Nick could spend hours playing games. From exploring wastelands with his brother, grinding for grand champ with his friends, or meticulously crafting worlds with his cousin.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit.

A Celebration of Life for Nick will be held in Bible Hill Fire Hall on Sunday, February 8th from 3 – 6 p.m. A private family burial will be held at a later date.

The family would like to thank Dr. Rowe, and Dr. Lamond of the oncology department.

Thank you to Mary, Hannah, Dr. Smith, Dr. Patterson, Dr. Henderson, and the entire Palliative Care team for making sure it didn’t (in Nick’s words) “suck ass.”

A special thank you to Wanda from Arimathea.

And thank you to everyone who helped make Nick’s last wish come true.

To know Nick was to love him.

Ivan Reginald Bayer

‘I am with you still. I give you this one thought to keep. I am with you still – do not weep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumns rain. When you awaken in the morning’s hush, I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not think of me as gone – I am with you still – in each new dawn.’

Bayer, Ivan Reginald - Age 91, passed away January 23, 2026 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro with his wife and daughters by his side.

Born in Meagher’s Grant, NS, he was a son of the late Leon and Pearl (Cole) Bayer. He was predeceased by his sister, Erma.

Following graduation from Musquodoboit Rural High School (MRHS), Ivan was employed with, what’s now the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commence (CIBC). He served in a number of maritime locations as a junior clerk and advanced to branch manager. He left the bank in 1970 to attend the Nova Scotia Teachers College where he and his wife, Gloria obtained their Teaching Degrees. Although very challenging they did this advanced education with three young daughters in order to give them all a better life. Ivan taught at MRHS for several years sharing his passion for Economics with his students. In 1984 Ivan’s teaching career ended due to health conditions.

Ivan is survived by his wife of 69 years, Gloria; daughters, Lynn (Linda) Boyle, Dartmouth; Karen (Boyd) Higgins, Meagher’s Grant; Lisa Bayer (Casey Peters), Upper Onslow; grandsons, Shane Higgins, Meagher’s Grant; Kyle Higgins (Haylee Keats), Fernie BC and Joel (Olivia) Goswell, Belmont; great-grandchildren, Maeve and Harvey Goswell, Belmont.

Ivan was the kindest, most thoughtful, steadfast, devoted and patient of men. He was a quiet (he’d say he couldn’t get a word in surrounded by his four ‘girls’) and soft soften man, but always with a mischievous grin and quick laugh. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, golfing (although for him it was mostly about collecting golf balls other golfers had lost) and cheering on the Toronto Maple Leafs. As the compassionate team at Colchester East Hants Health Centre wrote on his white board ‘He’s a Pepsi Guy’ – never touched coffee or tea – Pepsi was his drink and he also LOVED Chocolate. He and Gloria were blessed to spend many winters in Florida and Myrtle Beach together. They also greatly enjoyed an Alaskan Cruise to celebrate their 50th Anniversary. Gloria even coaxed him into square dancing, and performing at Senior Homes – quite an achievement for such a humble, shy man! Mostly Ivan focused on ensuring his love, Gloria, was well cared for in all ways. He loved and supported his daughters, grandsons, great grandchildren, other family members and friends in whatever way he could. We all like to picture him now sitting in Heaven with his beloved furry companions that crossed the Rainbow Bridge over the decades snuggled in his lap.

There will be no service, per Ivan’s wishes, with a private interment at a later date.

If you’d like to honor Ivan please do so in his name to a charity of your choice or the Meagher’s Grant Cemetery by cheque to Cemetery Fund, 3896 Hwy 357, Meagher’s Grant B0N 1V0.

Ivan/Dad/Grandad/GG - ‘May the winds of love blow softly and whisper so you can hear that I still love and miss you and wish that you were here. I know you walk beside me and when my life is through I pray God will take my hand and lead me straight to you. Forever loved, never forgotten.’

Clyde LeCoure

LeCoure, Clyde – It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Clyde LeCoure, who passed away at home on January 16, 2026, at the age of 83.

Born in 1942 in Black Duck Brook, Newfoundland, Clyde was the son of the late Lucien and Marguerite (Lainey) LeCoure.

He is survived by his loving children, Diana LeCoure and Jason (Shona) LeCoure; his brothers, Louie “Joe” and Bruce LeCoure; and his sisters, Cecilia “Sis” (John) Cadet and Marie (Anthony) Jeans. He was predeceased by his wife, Agnes and his brother, Clarence LeCoure. Clyde will be missed by his family and many friends, who will remember his strength, quiet humour, and devotion to his family. Though he could appear gruff on the outside sometimes, those who knew him well knew he had a big heart and a soft spot for the people he loved.

Clyde remained a proud Newfoundlander, even though he left home many years ago to begin his career in the Canadian Military. He proudly served his country for 25 years as a Military Police officer. His career included postings in Chatham, New Brunswick; Lahr and Baden-Baden, Germany; Shelburne and Halifax, Nova Scotia; and concluded at DND Headquarters in Ottawa, Ontario. He also completed a United Nations peacekeeping tour in Cyprus in 1974. Following his military service, Clyde continued his commitment to public service, working for 12 years as a Deputy Sheriff for the Province of Nova Scotia in Truro.

Clyde enjoyed a long and productive retirement, embracing his many hobbies and interests. An avid reader, he was delighted to have more time to read, much to Mom’s dismay, as she had a long list of projects she hoped he would finally tackle once retired. He stayed active throughout his life, earning a Black Belt in Chito-Ryu Karate before moving on to Tai Chi, then Qigong. He also enjoyed travelling, beekeeping, puttering in the garden, winemaking, photography, hiking, Friday night card parties and campfires, attending the MP reunions, and tackling many “redneck engineering” projects in the backyard.

While preparing this obituary, we came across an old list of “life goals” Clyde had written in the 1980s. Although the world-class ski resort, golf course, and casino he envisioned building for the Port au Port Peninsula never came to fruition, and travel to outer space remained out of reach, we are proud to say he absolutely achieved his most important goals: to make his wife, Agnes, happy every day, and to raise his children to their full potential in a loving home.

We love him, we miss him and will always remember him.

In keeping with Clyde’s wishes, there will be no formal service. This summer, his ashes will be taken home to Newfoundland, where a small celebration of life will be held. A gathering at the family home will also take place when the weather is better.

Winston (Wietze) Bokma

Bokma, Winston (Wietze) – Winston Bokma (1936-2026) of Shubenacadie, Nova Scotia, died peacefully in his home on January 16th, 2026. In the last few years, he often spoke of what it would be like to die and awake, “in the blink of an eye” looking at Jesus’ face. He told and re-told the story of the thief on the cross who believed in Jesus and was told by him, “Today you will be with me in paradise.” We take comfort in the thought of him in paradise now.

Winston was born in the village of Oudemirdum, Friesland, in the Netherlands. His parents, Aaltje and Sjoerd raised him on a small farm with cows and pigs. He was the fifth of six children and the last of them to pass. His siblings were Douwe, Tine, Lies, Nelie and Siemen. Winston picked up the love of farming from his father at an early age. He immigrated to Nova Scotia with his lifelong friend, Jake Folkerstma, at the age of 18 with the dream of having his own farm. Before he left, a young woman named Sietske (Shirley) de Jong caught his eye and heart. They corresponded for two years when Winston asked her to marry him. He went back to Friesland to marry her and they boarded the Seven Seas ship just two days later.

Winston and Shirley enjoyed almost 68 wonderful years of marriage together. They raised eight children on the farm and became second parents to Melissa Simmons after her father passed away. Dad and Mom hosted hundreds of people over the years, whether it be a young Dutch farmer who came for the summer, family from afar, or visitors from church who stopped by for coffee or tea. Dad loved to talk about his faith and did so in earnest with visitors, friends, children, grandchildren, and strangers. Some fond memories his children have of dad are going for Sunday drives, taking breaks from working in the field with a carafe full of icy Koolaid, tea, and cookies, and having devotions at the table after our meals which sometimes dissolved into fits of giggles.

Winston worked to build Bokma Farms Ltd. which he passed on to his sons George, Andy and Donald and today is run by his grandchildren. He was a charter member of Faith Community Church, and served with the Shared Word (Gideons), Archway Counselling Association and the Shumilacke Food Bank. If you wish to make a donation in his name, these charities were dear to his heart.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley; and children, George & Luanne Bokma, Andy & Connie Bokma, Donald & Evelyn Bokma, Ann & Henry TenNapel, Alice & Joe Seif, Jeffrey & Heidi Bokma, Linda & David de Jong, Roland & Sarah Bokma; grandchildren, Ben & Karmyn, Josiah & Sarah, Rebecca & Dan, Rachel & Charles, Sara, Nathan & Val, Nick & Melanie, Lucas & Amy, Melissa & Doug, Isaac & Anna, Laura & James, Julia & Doug, Jordan & Kendra, Alex, Jonathan & Gabriella, Adrianna & Jacob, Lydia & Steven, Renae & Brandon, Derek, Dayna, Elsie & Josh, Jeremy & Becca, Josh & Emily, Clayton, Owen & Louise, Hans, Kyle & Erica, Claire & Carson, Simon & Abigail, Gertie, Oliver, and Jesse. He was predeceased by Daniel.

Dad had fifty-three great-grandchildren and was predeceased by Miriam and Malachi.

Merrill David Savary

Savary, Merrill David – age 77, of Lawrencetown/Digby, Nova Scotia, passed away on January 10th, 2026, in Dartmouth General Hospital as the result of a heart attack.

Born in 1949, in Digby, Merrill was the youngest son of Russell Savary and Ola Savary (Tufts). He carried a lifelong love for his hometown and his family heritage, returning

to Digby whenever he could and speaking fondly of where he came from.

Married in 1979, Merrill was a devoted husband to Barbara, and they did nearly everything together. He chose early retirement to spend more time with family, a time they enjoyed through several trips to Punta Cana. Throughout their marriage, Merrill lovingly maintained their home and vehicles. In retirement, he gladly accompanied Barbara to her activities, helping set up and taking the time to get to know her friends. Family was a constant source of pride for Merrill, and few things brought him more joy than watching and coaching his son, Michael play baseball. That love fit naturally with his lifelong enjoyment of sports, including golf, hockey, curling, and baseball. In his later years, his granddaughters were the light of his life. A natural conversationalist, Merrill genuinely enjoyed learning about others—even during his time in hospital, he wanted to know the names and stories of every nurse who cared for him. His kindness, curiosity, and love of sharing knowledge shaped both his work and personal life.

Merrill dedicated nearly 40 years as a heavy-duty mechanic at CFB Halifax, and took great pride in his work. Later in his career, he learned French not only to advance professionally, but also to support his son with his schoolwork, reflecting his quiet devotion as a father. After his retirement, he continued to share his mechanical knowledge by helping friends, family, and anyone who asked. Outside of work, he found joy in nature, with a special love for animals, plants, and especially flowers.

His faith was a steady presence throughout his life, from childhood memories of hymns his mother played on the organ to his involvement with Calvin United Church in Lawrencetown. A lover of facts with a remarkable memory, Merrill was a devoted family historian and storyteller. He will be remembered as a man who cared deeply, learned continually, shared his wealth of knowledge and stories, and lived with kindness and generosity at the heart of all he did.

Merrill is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara (Bell) Savary; son, Michael (Emily) Savary; granddaughters, Olivia and Charlotte; siblings, Lauren Savary, Nathan Savary, and Marlene Miller; nieces and nephews, Lynn, Scott, Marlene, and Brad; sister-in-law Bettianne (Barry) Colpitts; and nephew, Craig.

He was predeceased by his parents, and 9 half-siblings.

A funeral will be held on Friday, January 16, 2026 at 2 p.m. in Calvin United Church, 3795 Lawrencetown Rd, Lawrencetown, NS, with visitation on January 15, 2026 from 7:00-8:30 pm in the same location. Cremation has taken place, and a private family interment will occur at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Calvin United Church, Heart and Stroke Foundation, or Dartmouth General Hospital Foundation.

Merrill will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Gary Bruce Eddy

Eddy, Gary Bruce – Gary Bruce Eddy passed away peacefully on January 8, 2026. He was 78 years old.

Gary is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Carol; his son, Christopher; his daughter, Michelle Campbell (Craig); and his grandchildren, Lauren Eddy and Rachel, Brendon, and Cameron Campbell. Gary was predeceased by his father, Spencer Eddy; his mother, Elizabeth (Miller) Eddy; and his brother, David Eddy.

Born in 1947, Gary grew up in Dartmouth, graduated from Prince Andrew High School, and proudly served for 29 years as a Firefighter with the City of Dartmouth and HRM before retiring in 1998.

During his years in the fire department, Gary loved riding at the rear of the truck, always being positioned to jump into action and run into burning buildings and provide assistance to others as a first responder.

Upon retiring from the fire department, Gary and Carol relocated from Dartmouth to East Chezzetcook where they became well-known residential real estate developers, constructing several multi-unit housing buildings in surrounding communities.

Gary was an avid outdoorsman who would take any and every opportunity to be out fishing or hunting. When the seasons were open, you would find him alone, waist deep in a river fly fishing or in the woods hunting deer with his buddies, many of whom were boyhood schoolmates who became lifelong friends. Some of the moments he most enjoyed were spent with good friends during fly fishing excursions in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The family would like to express appreciation to everyone for the phone calls and visits made to Gary while he with us. And we will be forever grateful to the doctors, nurses, and palliative care staff for their care, kindness, and compassion for Gary.

Cremation has taken place.

Following Gary’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society or QEII Health Sciences Centre Foundation - Palliative Care Unit.
