Cullen, Joseph Carl – Age 70, passed away peacefully with his family by his side. Born in Charlottetown, P.E.I. on April 22, 1944. Survived by his wife of 47 years, Nadine (Green); daughters, Ellen (Hastings), Toronto; Christine Cullen (Jon Konrad), Boston; Mary Cullen, Toronto; Joe’s most cherished grandchildren, Cullen Hastings, Jacob and Julia Konrad; brother-in-law, Peter Green (Gerrie Masters), Halifax; sisters-in-law, Mary Foley (Paul), Burlington, Ont.; Mae Bresson (late Alex), Christine Elliott (Brian Hastings), Cole Harbour; Deanna Cullen, Porters Lake; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his brother, Andrew.
Following a successful 40-year career in the electrical distribution business, Joe enjoyed travelling to visit “his girls” and family in Toronto and Boston, as well as many very special vacations in Florida – most recently celebrating his best birthday ever – No. 70! An avid golfer, he enjoyed countless games at Ashburn Golf Club and in Florida. He shot his age in July at Ashburn and was modestly proud of scoring three holes-in-one over the course of his “playing” career.
Joe will be dearly missed by extended family and friends of 50 plus years. Joe’s family thanks each and every one of you for your unending support during this most difficult time. Our memories of good times will live on forever. We thank the staff of Gladstone Family Practice Associates and the QEII Neurology Department for the exceptional care and compassion given during his very brief stay.
Funeral mass will take place 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 1 in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 1725 Oxford St., Halifax. Reception to follow in Ashburn Golf Course, 3250 Joseph Howe Dr., Halifax between 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Family flowers only. Donations in memory may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or Canadian Diabetes Association.
