Joseph Patrick Sullivan Jr.

Sullivan, Joseph Patrick Jr. – Joseph Patrick Sullivan Jr. passed away peacefully on November 29, 2022.

A bricklayer and meat cutter by trade, Joe was the eldest in the family of Mary (Scott) and Joseph Sullivan Sr. He often spoke fondly of his childhood having grown up in Enfield on Little Grand Lake where his parents built a log cabin by the lake, later in 1961 building the family home and clearing their land to operate Sully’s Campsite. Joe loved the property and while living in Alberta to work in Fort McMurray for many years, his heart was always with the family property. He yearned for the day he could retire and move home to spend his days at the lake and more time with his daughter, Erin.

After inheriting the family home, he came home for the summers and saw his dream of moving home permanently realized in the spring of 2018.

Joe loved the simple life and loved being in nature. In his adult life, he spent a lot of time in Renfrew helping his buddy, Edgar Horne in the gold mines while searching for the motherload, hunting or hanging out with friends at the camp.

Joe was an avid hunter and loved fishing. Being very knowledgeable about all nature and wildlife, he was always happy to share his knowledge with anyone, especially children.

Since returning to Enfield, Joe walked to the lake every day winter and summer, regardless of the weather, spending his days boating, canoeing to check on the turtles and eagle nests, feeding the ducks, watching the geese, birds, squirrels, any other wildlife or just enjoying the view. He also enjoyed going for drives.

Although he liked home cooked meals and sweets, his favourite food by far was chocolate ice cream! Joe could often be found eating it out right out of the container with a spoon and a huge smile until brain freeze kicked in!!

He played basketball when younger and was a Boston Bruins fan. He was so proud to have bragging rights in the family whenever the Boston Bruins won!

Joe appreciated any little thing people did for him. Being extremely kind and patient, many people would say that Joe was one of the nicest guys they ever met.

He is survived by his heartbroken daughter whom he loved dearly, Erin, Enfield; as well as siblings who share many wonderful memories, Shawn, Enfield; Eileen Wilson (David), Belnan; Cecilia Lidgett (Farrel), Alberta; Patrick, Alberta; Dan (Patricia Byrne), Enfield; Tim (Debbie), Enfield. He is also survived by nieces and nephews who thought the world of him as well as his Aunt Irene Scott whom he loved to visit.

He was predeceased by his parents and his beloved sister, Mary Esther Doucet.

A private gathering will take place to honour his memory.

Donations may be made to Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.
