Patterson, Watson Oscar "Pops" – It is with deep sadness that we, the family, announce the loss of Watson “Pops” Oscar Patterson, age 81, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Watson passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 16, 2016, at home with his family in East Lawrencetown. Born in Upper Lawrencetown, he was the son of Watson Stuart Patterson Sr. and Eldora (Pettipas) Patterson. Watson spent 33 years fishing for lobster, and in the off season worked for the Nova Scotia Department of Transportation. He was a very talented carpenter throughout his life, and also enjoyed playing cards and working in his beautiful vegetable garden. Watson was a respected member of his community, where he enjoyed fishing, hunting and “tearing up the dance floor”.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joan (Worthing); his daughters, Marlene and Darlene Patterson; his sons, Reid (Hope), Randy (Laura Lee); his grandchildren, Jenna (Duane) Stanley and Adam Patterson; his sister, Barbara. Besides his parents, Watson was predeceased by his sisters, Frances, Marlene, Golda; his half-sister, Norma. A very special thank you from the family goes out to “Dad’s Girl”, Jessie Nieforth, and also to Mitch Devoe of the VG Site Palliative Care Unit.
There will be viewing on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and funeral service will be Tuesday at 2 p.m., both in Calvin United Church, East Lawrencetown. Burial to follow in East Lawrencetown Cemetery. Family flowers only, please. Memorial donations may be made to VG Site, QEII Palliative Care.
