Derrick Howard Keizer

Keizer, Derrick Howard – age 65, of Porter’s Lake passed away on March 25, 2026. He was a son of the late Angus and Joyce Keizer.

Derrick is survived by his son, Devin (Kacey); siblings, Larry (Laura), Dana Cameron (Trevor), Mark (Paula); and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Derrick spent his working career as a skilled concrete finisher and drywaller who took great pride in his work and a job well done.

Growing up, Derrick could be found on Porter’s Lake trout fishing in the spring and snowmobiling in the winter. Derrick always played as hard as he worked. There was never a dull moment with most escapades ending in a story for the ages and a few grey hairs for Mom and Dad. In his later years, Derrick slowed down and lived a simple life. He enjoyed going for drives with Devin and reminiscing about family stories and the jobs he had done. Daily walks were part of his routine, if those shoes could talk, the stories they could tell.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation or pay it forward the next time you go through the drive-through at Tim’s in Porter’s Lake.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, April 4 in Porter’s Lake Community Centre from 2-4 p.m.

William "Bill" Gordon Parks

Parks, William “Bill” Gordon - passed away July 18, 2025, at the age of 77. Known by several different monikers, Bill, Billy or The Billy Bob, he left a lasting impression on all who met him with his unique outlook on life and sense of humour.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 25 from 2-4 p.m. in Springside Community Hall, 7072 Highway 289.

Deborah "Deb" Ann Park

Park, Deborah “Deb” Ann – It is with heavy hearts that we finally announce the passing of Deborah Ann Park, beloved mother, grandmother, partner, sister and friend to all who knew her. She passed away March 22, 2026, at the age of 58 after a courageous 4-year battle with ovarian cancer.
Deb was born in 1967 and lived her whole life in the Musquodoboit Valley. Above all else, she loved living life to the fullest while doing it her way. No matter what she did, she brought the good times with her. She was always good for a laugh and an ear you could talk to. She could always be found enjoying a beverage on her time off and spending time with those she loved the most. 
Deb worked at Braeside Home for Special Care for nearly two decades. She was passionate about the residents, the community and her co-workers and could often be found drinking a coffee and ready to lend a helping hand. Those who knew her remember her laugh that would make your heart smile.

She was predeceased by her parents, Bernard and Emilda; her step-mother, Ermine; her siblings, Tonya, Joey and Dennis.

She is survived by her significant other, Ashley; her children, Megan (Reggie) and Raymond (Amy); grandchildren, Sophie and Josie; siblings, Troy, Brenda and Nancy; others, Tanya Marie (Austin), Dawson (Jenny Pearl), Grayson and Everleigh. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the Bicentennial Theatre on June 26, 2026, from 7 pm to 1 am in true Deb fashion. She was extremely adamant that there was to be no somber or sad service. To honour her last wishes, there will be live music, dancing, singing, delicious catering and a cash bar available. All who knew Deb and/or love the Musquodoboit community are welcome. Children 18 years or younger are welcome from 7 pm-9 pm.

John E. H. Gordon

Gordon, John E. H. – It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of John E

H Gordon who died on March 17, 2026 in The Magnolia Continuing Care Community with his devoted wife by his side.

Born in 1940, John was a loving, caring man who loved life and cherished his family and many friends. He loved the outdoors, tending to his garden and playing with his beloved dog, Lucky. Classical music was a favorite for John during the days after his stroke as it brought him great comfort.

The years he spent with his loving wife, Laraine during their 17-year marriage gave him great joy and happiness.

John loved to laugh, loved playing cards, visiting the Shore Club and eating a good lobster dinner.  He was an avid Blue Jays fan.

One of his great joys later on in life was reconnecting with Paulette Tracy whom he considered a sister since early childhood.

John dedicated many years to his job at Inland Technologies before retiring.

John was predeceased by his mother, Eva Mae (Ramey) Gordon; father, James Hay Gordon; and his sister, Elaine Bartlett.

John leaves behind his loving wife, Laraine Gordon; step-daughters, Sheila Newcombe (Alex Newcombe) and Donna Robichaud (John Boyd); daughter, Ann Marie Shannon (Ken Ralston); son, Paul Gordon; nieces; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place.

William "Bill" Henry McCurdy

McCurdy, William “Bill” Henry – The family of William “Bill” Henry McCurdy is greatly saddened to announce that he passed away peacefully on March 17, 2026 in Wynn Park Villa in Truro at the age of 102, surrounded by his family.  Born in Middle Musquodoboit, Bill was a son of Robert S. and Jamesina (Moore) McCurdy.

Bill was a proud Veteran, having served overseas with the 4th Canadian Armoured Division, Royal Canadian Signals, during WWII. Following the war, he became well known as a skilled mechanic, working in Middle Musquodoboit, Truro, and then with the School Board in Brookfield. 

On retirement he became an avid golfer and played his last game at age 100.  He loved music and took up square dancing after the death of his first wife, Hilda in 1983.  There he met Muriel, and they were married in 1988.  They enjoyed fiddle music, loved the Last Chance Band, and attended dances until Muriel was well into her 90s. Bill danced at his 100th birthday celebration in 2023.

At various times over the years Bill was quite involved in his community. He was an Elder of the Middleton United Church, was at one time a member of the IOOF, the Royal Canadian Legion, and the Middle Musquodoboit Volunteer Fire Department. When he lived in Meaghers Grant with Muriel, he assisted her with Recreation Committee work, and transferred his United Church membership to there. 

For many years Bill attended Remembrance Day Services at the Cenotaph in Middle Musquodoboit, and placed a wreath honouring those fallen in WWII.  He placed a wreath for a final time on November 11, 2025.   His presence and participation in that Service will certainly be missed.

Bill is survived by his children, Ervin (Darlene), Brian (Jeannie), Darrell (Krista), Valerie Fraser (Philip Higgins), Blaine (Debbie), and Cheryl Sutherland (John); step-children Ronald (Wanda), Marina; step daughter-in-law, Gerry; grandchildren, Wayne (Miranda), Paula (Randy), Janice, Julie (Brian), Daralyn (Aaron), Andrea (Anthony), Stephen (Franziska), Tony (Wanda), Michelle (Paul), Jeremy (Jessica), Amanda (Darcy), and Alex; great-grandchildren, Brett (Danielle), Colby (Maddie), Brianna (Ryan), Jessica (Connor), Jayden, Jasper, Devin, Natalie, Brendan, Jillian, Matthew, Christopher, Antonia, Henry, Abigail, Malcolm, Rue; great-great granddaughters, Jailynn and Skylar; step-grandchildren, John, Heather, Philip, Jeffrey, Janice, David, and Kristopher; as well as several step-great-grandchildren.

Bill was predeceased by his parents, Robert S. and Jamesina; his first wife, Hilda (Myers); his second wife Muriel (Myers) Dickie; half-siblings, Greta, Ada, and Everett; sister, Clara; brother, Samuel; step-children, Leonard and Marian; and great-grandson, Elliott.

Dad spent several months at Camp Hill, where he received excellent care, but transferred to Wynn Park Villa in Truro to be closer to the majority of his family.  The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff of Wynn Park Villa for the wonderful care, love, kindness and compassion shown to Bill and to our family. It will never be forgotten.

The family would also like to thank Veterans Affairs Canada and their staff for the numerous times they helped Dad, and provided necessary aids and equipment as he aged and his mobility decreased.

Funeral Service will be Wednesday April 8 at 1:30 p.m. in Middleton United Church in Middle Musquodoboit, under the direction of Reverend Allan Lynk.  Following the funeral there will be a Reception in Meaghers Grant Recreation Centre.  All are welcome to attend.

In honouring Bill's wishes, cremation has taken place. By request, family flowers only. As expressions of sympathy in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Muriel "Molly" Catherine Ray (Woodin) Dean

Dean, Muriel “Molly” Catherine Ray (Woodin) – mother to Morley, Milton, Rebekah, Mary, Douglas, Garth and Layton, passed away peacefully in her sleep just shy of her 93rd birthday. She was a daughter of the late Arthur and Stella (Dean) Woodin, of Upper Musquodoboit.

Known for her kind disposition and love for her family, Molly will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She was known to the community for her great baking and her kindness toward everyone.

Molly’s family asks that she be remembered for the joy she brought to others in life, not the sadness of her passing. She is survived by her sons, Milton (Nora), Douglas (Wendy), Garth (Lisa) and Layton; her daughters, Rebekah (Tom Marshall) and Mary (Mike Harnish); as well as her loving grandchildren, Angela, Candice, Charlotte, Shelby, Clarissa, Dana and Bailey. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Leola Woodin, and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Clyde and son, Morley; her brothers, Russell (Shirley) and Elwyn; as well as her sisters, Faye (John Logan), Linda (Norman Murray) and Karen (Brian Canning).

Per her request there will be no formal service.

There will be a private burial at a later date.

Shelley Beth Langille

Langille, Shelley Beth – It is with deep love and heavy hearts that we share the passing of Shelley Beth Langille.

After calling 911 for the last time, Shelley spent 14 days in the ICU in Halifax on full life support. In true Shelley fashion, she fought with everything she had. She was able to come off the ventilator, breathe on her own, and most importantly, express her wishes.

Though her spirit was strong, her body, tired from years of struggle, could not continue to sustain her. Shelley found comfort as she watched March break photos roll in. Surrounded by love, she held on until she could hold on no more. Shelley slipped away peacefully on the evening of March 16, 2026. Those who truly knew Shelley understand how her physical limitations did not match her spirit and love of life. Shelley embodied Christian care for others, empathy and optimism. Shelley touched many lives in countless ways.

Shelley lived life to the fullest and never sat back and watched. Shelley planned adventures, took risks, worked hard, and loved deeply. We could not possibly name all the lives she touched. Please know that she loved and cherished each and every one of you.

Shelley had a deep passion for teaching; it was her true calling. A dear friend once described her as a maestro directing an orchestra when she taught; it was exactly what she was meant to do.

She loved her family deeply and was their historian, holding onto the details of life and sharing them with all who loved her.

Shelley was also an animal person through and through. Her horse, Freckles, her chickens, her bees, and most of all her cats, brought her immense joy.

Shelley was predeceased by her loving father, Clayton Langille.

She is survived by her mother, Beth Langille and her chosen family: her sister, Julee MacAfee; her brother, Robb MacNeil; and her nieces, Molly and Emma Clark, and Patricia and Cecile MacNeil.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Kidney Foundation of Canada, Truro, Nova Scotia Chapter.

Shelley will be remembered for her strength, her spirit, and the love she gave so freely. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered. As Shelley said on her last day, “I had a good life”. Until we meet again my friend.

A celebration of Shelley’s life will take place in July, and burial will be beside her dad and grandparents in Earltown, in a private ceremony.

Jennifer Jane Gero

Gero, Jennifer Jane – It is with heavy hearts the family of Jennifer Jane Gero announce her sudden passing at home on March 16, 2026 at the age of 41. Jennifer was a free spirit full of tenacity and was always there for her friends no matter what. She loved her music and clothes but above all else she adored and loved her nephew, Jahmal.

She is survived by her mother, Karen Gero; father, Ralph Gero; brother, Jason Gero; nephew, Jahmal Gero; Aunt Bonnie Graham; many aunts, uncles and cousins on the Gero side of the family, all from Truro.

Jennifer will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She was truly the rock of the family.

Adam Jackson Lattie

Lattie, Adam Jackson – age 96, of Nine Mile River, passed away peacefully in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro on March 15, 2026.

Born in Five Mile River, he was a son of the late William and Alalia (Ettinger) Lattie.

Adam’s first impression was his smiling face and his willingness to help others. He enjoyed gardening, making a mean batch of fudge, watching game shows on television and camping. His early working career was with Dominion Metal and then with a number of paving companies.

He will always be sadly missed by son, Robin (Karen); daughter, Lisa Awalt; granddaughters, Alyssa Lattie (Brody Tompkins), Renaye Lattie (Kyle Nicholson), Kayla and Zoe Awalt; great-granddaughters, Madison Tompkins and Alaia Nicholson.

He was predeceased by his wife, Edna in November 2023. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family having been predeceased by brothers, Reg, Clarence, Alfred, Raymond, Keith, Ross; sisters, Edith, Ada; and son-in-law, Shane Awalt.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 28 from 2-4 p.m. in Nine Mile River Community Hall.

Burial will take place at a later date in Sand Hill Cemetery, Upper Nine Mile River.

Gladys "Vivian" Leighton

Leighton, Gladys “Vivian” – of Wynn Park Villa, Truro, and Nine Mile River, died peacefully March 12, 2026, in Wynn Park Villa. She was 97. Born in 1929, she grew up in Noel Shore, Hants County, the eldest daughter of Clair and Audrey (Miller) Densmore.

Vivian had a long and productive life. She met her husband, Thomas Leighton, during her first year of teaching, became his wife and homemaker, raising five children. When she and Tom started up Green Valley Campground, she became the business manager, taking bookkeeping and typing courses, learning to use a computer to manage the financial end of the business. During her winter-time free time, she dove into family genealogy, collecting data to round out knowledge of both Leighton and Densmore families. She was active in the community, a congregant of the United Church of Canada, a member of associations such as the Women’s Missionary Society and Women’s Institute and a supporter of other initiatives in the community.

Kathleen "Kay" Ruth Wagner

Wagner, Kathleen “Kay” Ruth – Loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, of Milford, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026, in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro at the age of 81. Born in in Newcastle, New Brunswick and raised in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, she was a daughter of the late Verna (Campbell) Tobin and stepfather, Sidney Veinot.

Kay’s family was one of her greatest joys and she is survived by her loving family – sons, Karl (Heather), Shubenacadie; Andrew “Andy” (Rhonda), Milford; grandsons, Logan Hamilton (Jany), Joshua Wagner (Jessica), Jacob O’Leary (and girlfriend, Tiffany); great-granddaughters, Sophie and Elyse Hamilton, and Isabelle Wagner; brother, Sidney (Gail) Veinot; sister, Dale (Wayne) Barry; stepsisters and stepbrother, Kathie MacDonald-Strang (late Merv); Trudie Tobin (Michael Naugler); and Dennis (Catherine) Tobin. She is also survived by her beloved sisters and brothers-in-law, Marjorie (Dale) Ernst, Merle (Pat) O’Neill, Debbie (Llewelyn) Feener, Robert (Pam) Wagner, and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Albert “Abby” in 2012; her beloved daughter, Karen Hamilton, in 2015; stepfather, Clifford Tobin; step-brother Larry (Iris) Tobin; brothers and sisters-in-laws, Lloyd (Charity) Wagner, Clarence “Hippy” (Bernice) Wagner, and Ralph Wagner; niece, Gwen Moores; nephews, Shannon, Christopher and Ryan Feener; and step-nephew, Mark MacDonald. 

Cremation has taken place. At Kay’s request, there will be no service. A graveside service will be held at a later date.

James "Jim" "Jimmy" " Duke" W. D. Cruickshanks

Cruickshanks, James “Jim” “Jimmy” “Duke” W. D.  – It is with sadness that the family of James W. D. Cruickshanks, age 87, announces his passing on March 7, 2026, in QEII Health Sciences Centre.

Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late William and Mary (Coady) Cruickshanks.

Known to many as Jim, Jimmy, or “Duke,” James started his family in Lower Sackville before later making his home in Lantz, where he spent the remainder of his life.

James made his career working in foundations, a trade that reflected his strong work ethic and willingness to take on hard work. Some would say it was like his personality, concrete.

He played guitar and ukulele and always sang along.

In his early teen years, he worked at Sackville Downs sparking a lifelong love of horse racing that stayed with him throughout his life. In later years he continued to enjoy following the races at Truro Raceway. He also worked on a seal boat as a younger man.

James also loved the outdoors and spent many seasons bass fishing along his favourite spot on the Shubenacadie River, where he enjoyed the quiet and simplicity of the river.

He will be remembered for his reliability—if someone needed help, James could always be counted on.

James is survived by his son, Greg (Holly) and his children, James, Nicole, and Jared; son, Steven (Sandra) and his children, Jessica, Rebecca, and Stephanie; and daughter, Rose (Cecil) and her children, Jason and Michael. He was also the proud great-grandfather of 15 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Jessie and Patsy; his brother, Wayne, and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Kenneth and his sister, Marylou.

Donations in James’ memory may be made to any local food bank.

The family would also like to express appreciation for the friendships he enjoyed over the years gathering at Tim Hortons, and the bond he shared with Barry Nieforth.

As per James’ wishes, there will be no formal service at this time. A graveside service will be arranged at a later date.

Percy Blackmore

Blackmore, Percy – It is with deep sadness that the family of Percy Blackmore announce his passing on March 6th, 2026, at the age of 75. Percy passed away following a recent diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.

Percy shared 53 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Sadie, a partnership built on love, loyalty, and a deep devotion to the family they created together.

Percy was a devoted father to Byron (Kristina), Karen (Fred), Kimberly, and Katrina (David) and a proud and loving “Poppy” to nine cherished grandchildren — Ethan, Rachael, Vivian, Claire, Luke, Addison, Henry, Maverick, and Zoe. To them, Poppy was the one who could solve just about any problem — and more often than not he already had exactly the right tool somewhere in his truck. Whether it was mending a toy, helping with a project, or simply spending time together, Percy’s patience, kindness, and quiet wisdom left a lasting impression on each of them.

He is also survived by his five brothers and three sisters - Phyllis, Betty, Ruth, Roger, Wilson, Albert, Jerry, and David, whose lifelong bond and shared memories remained important to him.

Percy was predeceased by his sister, Louise Feltham, and his parents, Wilson and Alberta Blackmore.

Percy dedicated many years of his life to teaching high school mathematics. Known for his expertise, fairness, and steady encouragement, he was highly respected by both colleagues and students. Many former students — including friends of his own children — continued to speak fondly of the teacher who helped guide them through some of their most challenging subjects.

In retirement, Percy and Sadie embraced adventure together. They shared a love of hiking and exploring the natural beauty around them, especially along the trails at Taylor’s Head, Gros Morne National Park, and Percy’s favourite — the Chezzetcook Trail, just to name a few. Their retirement years were also filled with memorable travels, sometimes just the two of them and often alongside family and close friends, creating experiences and stories that will be treasured for years to come.

For those who knew Percy well, his true passion was carpentry. He had a remarkable ability to build, repair, or figure out almost anything that needed attention. Whether helping family, neighbours, or friends, he was always willing to lend a hand. His quiet generosity, practical wisdom, and steady presence made him someone others could always count on.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative.

A service to celebrate Percy’s life will be held in The Lion’s Club (89 East Chezzetcook Road) on Sunday, March 29, 2026, from 1 – 3 p.m. Family and friends are welcome to attend and share memories of a man who meant so much to so many.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages acts of kindness in Percy’s memory — lend a hand, help someone with a project, or do something thoughtful for a neighbour, just as Percy so often did.

Gordon "Gordie" Hill

Hill, Gordon “Gordie” – It is with deep sadness that the family of Gordon “Gordie” Hill of Chaswood and formerly of Stewiacke, announce his sudden and unexpected passing on Thursday, March 5, 2026 at the age of 58. Though we will miss him dearly, we take comfort knowing he is at peace with the Lord.

Gordie shared 36 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Kim, and 40 years together, a partnership built on love, loyalty, and a life centered on family. He loved his family dearly and led them well.

Born in Truro, he was a son of Elva Hill and the late Elroy Hill.

Gordie was a devoted and loving father to Michael, Timothy (Jen) and Chelsey (Paul); and a proud and loving “Papa” to his grandchildren, Raina, Everleigh, and Rohan. As Papa, he always knew how to make them laugh. He cherished every moment with them. Whether tinkering on little projects, spending time outdoors, or making memories at “the camp” with his family and his two close friends, Brian and Doug, he found joy and a connection with God in nature. His warmth, patience and quiet wisdom left a lasting impression, and the love he shared and the memories he created will live on through his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his sisters, Cindy (David), Brenda (Paul) and Tracy (Kevin); several nieces and nephews; and his aunt, Leah Ramsey, whom he affectionately called his second mum.

Gordie will always be forever loved, cherished and remembered.

He was predeceased by his nephew, Darren Holder; his aunt, Velma Hines; his brother-in-law, Craig Miller; his sister-in-law, Wendy Adams; and his mother-in-law, Judy Miller.

A graveside Celebration of Life will be held on May 23 at 1:30 p.m. in Pine Grove Cemetery, East Stewiacke, with a reception to follow in West St. Andrews Community Hall.

Dan Mosher Laffin

Laffin, Dan Mosher – Age 73, of Stewiacke, passed away March 2, 2026 while at his home in Florida.

Born in Upper Stewiacke, he was a son of the late Frank and Jean (Johnstone) Laffin.

Dan will always be remembered for his quick wit and sarcasm, having an opinion on everything. For 38 years, he was owner operator of Laffin Trucking, building the business from one truck and increasing his fleet over the years. Dan enjoyed Romeo’s in Florida (Retired Old Men Eating Out), attending car races and antique car shows. He was very proud of his grandchildren.

He will always be loved and missed by his loving wife of 55 years, Joan (Miller); daughter, Peggy; son, Todd (Amy); grandchildren, Joel Hines (Renée), Devon (Vanessa), Keilidh and their mother, Darlene; sisters, Frances Ellis, Heather (Ed) Beaulieu; brothers, Colin and Ronald (Kathy) Laffin; brother-in-law, Walter Ross; several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sister, Bonnie Ross; brothers-in-law, Alex Ellis and Garnet Dickie.

Cremation has taken place.

In keeping with his wishes, there will be no funeral service.

Sharon Morris

Morris, Sharon – age 82, a long time resident of East Chezzetcook, passed peacefully February 26, 2026, in Victoria General Hospital with family at her side.  She was a daughter of the late Edwin Crawford and late Ethel Stoddard.

Sharon is survived by her husband of 59 years, Graham; children, Maureen Webb (Donnie), Bonita Carpenter (Bill), Glenn Morris; grandchildren, Rachel Carpenter, Brandon Carpenter, Karessa Webb and great-grandchildren, Kent, Vivian, Gerry, Max, Emmy; sisters, Linda Russell (Steven) and Diane Isenor (Earl). She was predeceased by siblings, Scott (in infancy), Blois, Neil, Blair, Alda. 

Mom's hobbies included cards, scrolling Facebook and camping with the 'Good Sam' group. Her more serious hobby was Bingo where she documented on a calendar all her winnings.  Nannies knitted creations for her grand/great-grandkids were crafted following Christmas for the next 'Bundles of Winter Warmth' gifts and will be passed on for many generations. Her passion for weekly baking allowed her to offer visitors a variety of treats. Bottled preserves and serving Hamburg Soup, apple dumplings, Queen Elizabeth cake and date squares, have all become traditional items for our family gatherings. 

Mom supplied desserts and her potato salad to several celebrations at the Chezzetcook and District Lions Club. For years while in the 'CB (citizens band) Club' she was 'Minnie Mouse' along side 'Cookie Monster'. Gathering documents and information on the Scott/Crawford ancestry was a continuing and passionate project for many years.

Her direct, quirky humour was experienced with many including 'the man handshake' that she was never alert to at first then, gave back, to put those 'players' their place, then would chuckle. Popular sayings included 'A**hole', 'thing a ma bob', 'Go away with you', and during camping trips when someone was just slightly out of site using nature's facilities 'I see your winky'.

She went through a fad for several years mixing the delicious drink called 'Singapore Sling' which measurements were always done as a pinch and a pour, but were always still as delicious even when alcohol was no longer added. 

Our family is deeply grateful for the care and compassion from staff at Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital, Dartmouth General Hospital, and the Victoria General Hospital and was also recognized and expressed by Mom during her final week.

As a dedicated supporter, we ask in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Chezzetcook and District Lions Club, 89 East Chezzetcook Road, East Chezzetcook, NS B0J 2L0 on her behalf.

Cremation has taken place. There will be no service as her request.

Norah Joan (Blakney) Nickerson

Nickerson, Norah Joan (Blakney) – passed away on February 26th, 2026, with her two sons by her side, holding her hands in St. Martha’s Hospital, Antigonish, just three weeks after her beloved husband, John died.

Norah was born in Sackville, New Brunswick to Reynolds and Mary (Fagen) Blakney. The second youngest of seven children, Norah attended community college before making her way to Halifax. It was in Halifax, while hanging out with her sister, who worked at the taxi stand, she met John Nickerson. They were inseparable from the start, and after a short time dating, they got married. They spent 53 years of marriage together, a true love story that lives on, with her passing of a lonesome heart.  

Norah and John moved to Upper Musquodoboit where they built a home and raised their two sons, JM and Chuck. They lived there for 39 years, until a fire took the house in 2023. Norah and John lived out the rest of their days in East Tracadie with their son, JM and his wife, Mora, and their four beautiful grandchildren.

Norah worked at Brenntag Canada for 24 years until her retirement in 2008. It was while working at Brenntag she received her Degree in Business Administration from Mount Saint Vincent University in 1997.

Norah loved spending time with John in the workshop helping him with small carpentry jobs, building toys and birdhouses. They camped and travelled extensively. After retirement they enjoyed many winters keeping warm down in Georgia, with their dog, Belle.

Norah is survived by her sons, JM (Mora MacNeil), and Charles (Amber Jackson, deceased); grandchildren, Morgan, Freya, Dagen, and Osric; brother, Neil; and sister-in-law, Anna.

She was predeceased by her husband, John; and their daughter, Liza Michelle, in infancy.

Cremation has taken place. Burial to follow at a later date.

Roderick Arthur Dickie

Dickie, Roderick Arthur – It is with great sadness and remembrance that we share the passing of Roderick Arthur Dickie, age 67, who died peacefully with his family by his side at sunrise on the morning of February 26, 2026.

Rod was born to the late Goldie (Eaton) and Lester Dickie, in Middle Musquodoboit. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Pam (Withrow); their children, Ryan (Becca), Michael (Wendy), and Evan (Jacy); their grandchildren, Everett, Sylvie, Casen, Lennon, Scarlet, Ivy, and Goldie; sisters, Florence (Dick), Sandra (Eddie); sister-in-law, Sharron. He is also survived by many in-laws, nieces and nephews, and extended family whom he loved dearly. He was predeceased by his brother, Leslie.

Rod was extremely passionate about his business, volunteering, and helping in his community in any way possible. But most of all, his family was his world and number one priority. The love he and Pam shared was unmatched and unbreakable. He worked extremely hard to ensure that his boys had every opportunity to succeed, while instilling discipline, hard work, and strong life values in each of them.

He was the best Bumpa to his grandchildren…he will never be forgotten.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held in the spring.

Frank Kenneth Ellis

Ellis, Frank Kenneth – Age 94, of Wittenburg, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2026. Born in 1932, he lived his whole life in the community of Wittenburg and was born in the living room of the family farmhouse, which he purchased at 27 years old when his father passed away. With only a grade 9 education he managed to work in many fields including farming, logging, carpentry, and airplane maintenance before purchasing his first dump truck in 1972. He demonstrated a strong work ethic in all that he did which he passed on to his children and grandchildren, leading by example. Even though he was busy he made time for family adventures. He would take time away from the farm to go away on the weekends or head to the Windsor Exhibition in the fall with all three kids to spend a few nights in the camper he built.

He was forever doing small jobs in the community with his tractors or trucks and was considered a “constant” in many people’s lives. He was a Deacon for many years with Wittenburg Baptist Church, as well as teaching Sunday school, participating in men’s fellowship events, and spending many years as a member of the Gideons, handing out New Testament Bibles to 5th graders. He loved the time he spent with the Fellowship of Christian Farmers passing out walking sticks with a message of salvation during exhibition time. He started and ended each day praying for his family, community, and giving thanks for all the blessings God had provided. His mission field was to serve God by helping others.

Frank was a dedicated family man. He loved his wife, Lois dearly and would often say he was leaving behind a legacy. His grandchildren were the apples of his eye, and he spent countless hours with them as small children doing barn chores, sleepovers, and tractor rides. As they grew, he offered sound advice and pointed them to God through all things. He was delighted to be able to see his great-grandchildren and cherished the time he spent with them.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lois; daughter, Kimberlee (Seth) Sweetser; sons, Steven (Sherilee) Ellis and Jonathan (Margaret) Ellis; along with beloved grandchildren, Seanna (Chris) Pyne, Joshua (Marissa) Ellis, and Faith Sweetser; as well as great-grandchildren, Lyla Ellis, Emrys Pyne, Everett Pyne, and Ivy Ellis.

He was predeceased by parents, James & Florence Ellis; brothers, Elmer, Percy (Iva), Harold (June), Maurice (Helen); sisters, Veta (Harry) and Hazel (Bob).

Special Thank You to all those that were involved at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro in making sure his last days were comfortable, especially Emily and Erin on E2 wing; Virginia, Melissa, Janet on the Palliative Care wing; Dr Stephen Ellis who helped to guide Dad's care with such care and humour; Dr Henderson and Dr. Patterson who were so compassionate and caring.

The family would also like to thank the men and women of Parkland, Fergus Hall in Truro, for taking great care of him and mom.

William "Brian" Hill

Hill, William “Brian” – age 70, of Shubenacadie, passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2026.

Born in Ontario, he was a son of the late George and Betty (Barker) Hill.

Brian is survived by his children, Kelly, Kim, Mike, Mark; six grandsons; brother, Paul (Barb); sister, Cathy Flemming; niece, Sandra Flemming; and great-niece, Janisha Flemming.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit.

There will be no visitation or funeral service by request.

There will be a Tribute Service by the Shubenacadie Lions in Royal Canadian Legion Branch 111, 42 Mill Village Rd, Shubenacadie, in the spring.

Special thanks to the palliative care team in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro.

He met his passing with dignity and grace.  A kind and gentle man.
