William "Billy" Richard Bennet

Bennet, William “Billy” Richard – Age 92 of Musquodoboit Harbour, passed away peacefully with family and friends watching over him in Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital on August 25th, 2026. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Edward and Annie Bennet.

The Bennet family moved to Musquodoboit Harbour, when Billy was 2 years old, to the house where he continued to live throughout most of his life.
Billy was well known as a man who could fix or build almost anything mechanical, from heavy machinery down to a lawnmower. He was still working a backhoe well into his late 80's. He was always the first to lend a hand to whomever may need the help. 

When he finally slowed down, he and Marilyn loved to go camping and travel. Trips across Canada to revisit places they had lived and friends they had made. Many an afternoon at the campground, he spent playing washer toss, usually with a glass in his other hand, all the while teasing his opponents.

Billy is survived by his eldest son, Rick (Anne); and daughter, Margaret, all of Musquodoboit Harbour; grandchildren, Nicole (Adam), Kathie-Lee (Josh), Matthew (Sarah), Nick (Averie); great-grandchildren, Kamden, Liam, Olivia and Emma; and many nieces and nephews. 

He was predeceased by his wife, Marilyn, whom he missed everyday; youngest son, Dale; sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and Ivan Kent; and brother, Archie Strong.

The family would like to thank the staff of Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital for their phenomenal care of Dad during his last days.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Petpeswick Yacht Club, 434 East Petpeswick Road, Musquodoboit Harbour on Sunday, August 30th starting at 2 p.m.

Howard "Howie" Douglas MacLean

MacLean, Howard “Howie” Douglas – age 79, of Tatamagouche, NS, passed away on August 18, 2026, in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Howie was born in Truro to Douglas Harold Richard MacLean and Ethel Marion McCabe.

He will be dearly missed by his daughter, Kelly; son-in-law, Jody; and grandchildren, Emma (Mitchell) and Jake. Without the love and support of his daughter and her family, his time with us would not have lasted nearly as long. Howie is also survived by his brother, Richard (Leona) MacLean; and nephew, Derrick (Tracy) MacLean, who were a constant presence throughout his life. He also leaves behind his daughter, Krista Benoit and grandchildren, Tyler and Sydney; and half-sister, Heather (Dennis) Crate.

He was predeceased by his infant sister, Sonia MacLean; and his half-brother, Thomas MacLean.
Howie’s dog, Austin was his constant companion, and her passing in 2020 left a void that never truly healed. 
Howie was a Red Seal certified electrician who went on to build and run his own business — the first of several ventures he’d launch over the years, driven by an entrepreneurial spirit and a creative mind that was always looking for the next opportunity. He brought that same energy into everything he built. But more than his work, he’ll be remembered for his generosity — he gave freely of his time, his skills, and himself, often putting others’ needs ahead of his own.
Howie played fastball his entire life and was known and feared on the pitcher’s mound. He was a member of Truro Keith’s, a team named to the Honour Roll for their spectacular showing in 1969, when they captured the provincial title. After playing he turned to his true love, coaching youth in his community. Howie stayed close with many of his teammates and athletes over the years, always happy to reminisce about their fastpitch days together.
Howie has been promoted to greatness and is now called up to pitch where the games never end. Ya done good, kid!
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the amazing nurses in Palliative Care at Colchester East Hants Health Centre for the compassionate care they provided Howie and the loving support to his family in the final days.
Howie will be laid to rest in Terrace Hill Cemetery, Kaulback Street, Truro. A private interment will be held at a later date.

Kathleen Ann Fiddes

Fiddes, Kathleen Ann – of Lower Onslow, passed away on Thursday August 20, 2026 at Debert Court. She was 88 years old.

Ann was the eldest of 5 children, Lin, Bonnie, Bruce and Valerie. Her parents were Charlie and Grace (Peters) Fiddes. Her mom passed away in 1987 at the age of 69, her dad in 2004 at the age of 93, her brother, Bruce left us in 2020, at the age of 68, and sister-in-law, Bev.

Ann is survived by brother, Lin; sisters, Bonnie (Bill) Hazelton, Valerie; sister-in-law, Ann; many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and even great great nieces and nephews, Paul (Sharon) Fiddes (children, Josh (Tamara) and their children, Gwen and Owen); Justin Fiddes; and Kayla Fiddes (Justin Colson) (children, Elaina, Liam and Layne); Tammie Fiddes (children, Devin Miller (Melanie) and their children, Charlie and Lincoln); and Shawn Miller; Fred (Chantale) Hazelton (children, Bram (Taylor), Alec and Mattice); Melanie (John) Will (children, James and Allan); Marcus Fiddes (Andrea Munroe) (children Alden, Ruby and Ira); Andrew Fiddes (Luke Power); Joanna Fiddes; Alan Fiddes (Kaylee Walker) (son, Lachlan); Lori (Chris) Grund (children, Olivia, Lily and Sophie); Brandon Purdy (son, Clay); and Conor Purdy. Whatever activity those nieces and nephews were participating in, if she could, she was there to watch and support.

Ann’s early years included multiple stays at the Children’s Hospital in Halifax, many orthopedic surgeries and long recoveries. Despite physical challenges and a world that had not yet learned how to best treat her condition, she was not deterred or prevented from living her life “my way”.

Ann graduated from Colchester County Academy in 1956. After a brief time at Mount Allison University in New Brunswick, she returned home and attended Success Business College, graduating in 1957. Ann enjoyed a 40-year career with the Municipality of Colchester, retiring in 2001.

Ann was a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, Onslow Belmont UCW, and enjoyed bowling in various bowling leagues, including a Nova Scotia Women’s competitive team. She volunteered with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colchester, which included being a Big Sister and serving on the Board of Directors. She served on the Along the Shore Community Health Board, as well as many other volunteer activities over the years.

Ann was church organist at Lower Onslow United Church for 50 years, taking over from her grandmother, Blanche Peters. During that time, she worked with the church choir, junior choir and community choir, Joyful Noise.

Ann was happiest when she was outdoors, camping or just sitting on her front deck enjoying the fresh country air.

A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday August 26 at 2 pm, with visitation before the service at 1 pm and reception to follow, all in Trinity Untied Church, 415 Onslow Rd, Upper Onslow. Committal will be in Lower Onslow Clarke Cemetery.

Donations to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colchester East Hants to further the work that was so important to Ann during her lifetime would be gratefully accepted.

Gregory Porter VanTassell

VanTassell, Gregory Porter - Age 79, passed away Aug 11, 2026 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Truro, Greg was the son of the late Lawrence Patterson VanTassell and Mildred Alice Banks. He grew up in Brookfield, where he put down lifelong roots. Tass was a true jack-of-all-trades and was successful in every job he held. Anything you put in front of hm to build, fix, or create, he put his full heart and dedication into it. There wasn’t a car, motor, or lawnmower that he couldn’t fix or tried to fix. He was a committed member of the Brookfield Fire Hall for 40 years, serving his community with pride. In recognition of his dedicated service, his number was retired in 2004.  Tass found joy in balance — he loved the calm of his garage projects just as much as the lively gatherings and conversations at the camp in Eastville. Both places held a special place in his heart.  He is survived by his wife and dancing partner of 50 years, Nancy (Campbell); his children, Chipper (Lori), Brookes, and Jenna (Mike); daughter-in-law, Joan Hatton; grandchildren, Broden, Myla, Rigby, and Garrett; step-grandchildren, Mitch, Travis, Breagh, and William; sisters, Helen Belanger and Susan VanTassell; along with many cousins, nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Billy, and his nephew, Andre. There will be no visitation or service by request. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the ALS society.

Michael Douglas Meisner

Meisner, Michael Douglas – The family of the late Michael Meisner announce his sudden passing on August 13, 2026 at the age of 61. He resided his entire life in Newton Mills, NS.

Surviving are his mother, Rosemarie (Pratt) Meisner; sister, Kim (Randy) Hamilton; twin sister, Michelle (Jon Lowe); sister, Maxine (Allison MacMullin); nieces, Nicole Hamilton, Lisa Holman; nephews, Douglas, James, Bryan Holman, Cameron Lowe; great-nephews, Caleb, Isaac Holman; great-niece, Parker Holman.

Michael was predeceased by his father, Douglas Meisner.

In keeping with his wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral. A private graveside service will be held in Riverside Cemetery, Upper Stewiacke, with Rev. Larry Harrison officiating.

Elizabeth "Ann" (Baker) Carroll

Carroll, Elizabeth “Ann” (Baker) – It is with sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, a cherished wife, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend.

Elizabeth “Ann” (Baker) Carroll died peacefully on August 14, 2026 at the age of 69 surrounded by her family.

She leaves behind her husband of 51 years, Thomas; daughters, Shannon (Chuck) Karsten and Ashley (Paul) Anderson and her grandchildren, who were the light of her world, Kyle (Grace), Cameron, Bailey, Avery, and Mason; brothers, Ed (Janet), Robert (Janet), Allen (Nancy) and Stephen Baker and many cherished nieces and nephews.

Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Allen and Elizabeth “Betty” (Taggart) Baker. She was predeceased by her parents-in-law, Lawrence and Charlotte (Kelly) Carroll and sister-in-law, Irene (Young) Baker.

Mom had a special way of making everyone around her feel loved welcome and cared for. Her greatest love was her family and she poured her heart into creating a home filled with traditions, laughter, and treasured memories.

A hairdresser for over 40 years, she had a salon in her own basement. This allowed her the wonderful privilege of building her career while still being at home with her family, a balance she cherished deeply over the years. Her customers became much more than clients, they became her friends.

Mom was always happy to lend a helping hand at Church events and became famous for her delicious coleslaw, homemade rolls, pinkie squares and fudge. She found joy in sewing, quilting and of course her favourite past time shopping.

Feeding people was her love language. If she wasn’t in the kitchen preparing something, she was shopping, always on the hunt for a sale on turkeys. Sunday night suppers were a cherished family tradition bringing everyone together each week to stay connected.

Mom loved sharing her kindness through baking, often preparing homemade treats for her grandchildren’s teachers during the holidays and at the end of each school year.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, September 7th, 2 p.m. in Jeddore United Baptist Church.

Our mom was a shining example of love and kindness. In honour of her memory, we ask that you show someone an act of kindness just as she would have.

Tina Elizabeth (Penney) Gale

Gale, Tina Elizabeth (Penney) –It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Tina Elizabeth (Penney) Gale, of Lake Echo and formerly Newfoundland. She was affectionately known by many as “Bunky,” on August 10, 2026, at the age of 51.

Tina was a beautiful person inside and out, and there simply are not enough words to describe how much she meant to the people who were lucky enough to know and love her.

She was a devoted mother to Stacey (Travis), Matthew (Keisha), and Francis (Aelia), and nothing in this world compared to the love she had for her children. She was also a proud and devoted grandmother to her three precious grandchildren, Keira, her little princess, and her handsome boys, Greyson and Karson. Tina cherished them with all her heart, spoiled them every chance she got, and would have done absolutely anything for them.

Tina's greatest love was her husband, Rob, her everything and the love of her life. They were truly inseparable, spending almost every moment together. They laughed together, worked together, played together, and shared a love that was easy for everyone around them to see. Rob was the one who could always make her smile, and together they showed everyone the true meaning of love, friendship, and partnership.

Tina and Rob were both incredibly hard workers and built a life together through their dedication and determination. They worked side by side through their construction company Tiro, taking pride in what they did and in everything they accomplished together. For Tina, working alongside Rob was simply another part of sharing life with her best friend.

And if you knew Bunky, you probably knew that she was never too far away from her phone—and you could almost guarantee that at some point you'd receive a picture of a bruised finger, a sore toe, a hurt foot, a bump, a scrape, or whatever else she had managed to injure at work that day. Those pictures became one of the many little things that made her unmistakably Tina. Somehow, even getting hurt could become a reason to make everyone laugh and share a moment with her.

Tina was predeceased by her beloved parents, Alice and Bill Penney.

She leaves behind to mourn her loving husband, Robert; her children, Stacey (Travis), Matthew (Keisha), and Francis (Aelia); her grandchildren, Keira, Greyson, and Karson; her mother-in-law, Patricia McKay (Pat), whom Tina loved very deeply and thought the world of; her step-son, Brandon; her brothers and sisters, William (Shannon), Jackie (Jocelyn), Tracey (Corey), Lisa, Michael (Andrea), Karen (Dale), and Stephen;  as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and a large circle of close and cherished friends.

Tina had a heart that was bigger than life. She would do anything for anyone and never hesitated to put others before herself. She was generous, thoughtful, kind, caring, and always made people feel welcome and loved.

And if you ever showed up at Tina's house around mealtime, you knew you were going to be fed. She was an amazing cook and always made sure there was more than enough food for everyone—whether it was family, friends, or even a few unexpected guests who happened to drop by. Somehow, there was always enough food, even if half a softball team showed up at her door.

Tina didn't need much to make her happy. She found joy in the simple things in life—a campfire, a quad ride, a snowmobile ride, a weekend at the camp, watching a movie, listening to music, sharing a good joke, having a few drinks, and most of all, spending time with the people she loved. She loved to laugh, have fun, and make memories.

Those who knew Tina will remember her laughter, her kindness, her generosity, her hard-working spirit, her sense of humour, her love of family, and the way she could make an ordinary day feel special simply by being there.

She leaves behind a lifetime of memories and a piece of her heart in every person who loved her. Though her time with us was far too short and her sudden passing has left a hole that can never be filled, her love will live on through her children, grandchildren, family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.

Bunky was deeply loved. She was treasured. She was one of a kind.

Until we meet again, Tina. You will be loved and missed for the rest of our lives.

Betty Joyce Brown

Brown, Betty Joyce – age 78, of Stewiacke, passed away August 9, 2026 following a brief illness in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Palliative Care, Truro.

Born in Summerville, she was a daughter of the late Ernie and Verda (Field) Mahar.

Betty was strong physically and mentally and a dedicated hard-worker along with her husband and family at Valley Fruit and Vegetable stand in Shubenacadie East. Growing up, she was called “Black Beauty” by her friends from her eyes and black hair. She was very excitable, and one never knew what she was going to say or how it might come out. She loved singing, particularly old country music, and dancing which made her the focal point of attention which she thoroughly enjoyed. She loved to eat and loved to talk, sometimes both at the same time. She was very young at heart and enjoyed having her hair and makeup done making her look pretty. After losing her husband in May, she was looking forward to moving into her daughter’s apartment, but it wasn’t meant to be.

Betty loved her family and was a dedicated mother to Angela (Todd), Alicia (Roland), Roderick (Holly); dedicated grandmother to Brooke (Owen); and great-grandmother to Weston Noble. She is also survived by sisters, Laura, Arlene; brothers, Billy (Ruth), Merle (Gloria); many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by husband, Delbert; brothers, John, Tom and Henry.

Cremation has taken place.

Arnold Lewis Hamilton

Hamilton, Arnold Lewis – The family of Arnold Lewis Hamilton, age 85, are deeply saddened to announce his peaceful passing on August 8, 2026, at home. 

Born in Noel Shore in 1940, Arnold spent the majority of his life along the shore. To those who knew him well, he had a wicked sense of humor and enjoyed all the good times with his lifelong friends Gary and Grace Beattie, Wendell and Linda Tomlinson, and Brian Miller.

Arnold had a strong work ethic his entire life. After a couple of trips out west, he was a poultry farmer with Cox Bros. Poultry. He then moved on to construction and foundations, working with Wayne Crowell, George Lacey, and Duane Rushton. 

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Brenda (VanBuskirk); son, Troy, Truro; daughter, Tracey (Darren), Economy; and his ‘best gift ever’, granddaughter, Breanna Barter (Simon), Edmonton; brother, Rudy (Alexandra), Truro; sister, Joyce Hamilton, Truro.

He was predeceased by his parents, Louis and Marion (Hill) Hamilton.

The family would like to express our sincere gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff at CEHHC, the VON and Continuing Care for all their care and kindness throughout his journey.

Cremation has taken place. Details regarding a Celebration of Life in September will be provided at a later date.

Luella Joyce Graham

Graham, Luella Joyce - Age 92, of Halfway Brook, Nova Scotia, passed away on August 9, 2026, in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia.

Born in River John, Nova Scotia, she was a daughter of the late Warren and Annie (Dodge) Redmond.

Joyce was a longtime attendee of Middle Stewiacke United Church and member of United Church Women (Unit 9). Joyce liked to do crafts, garden, decorate for Christmas, and attend dances and music shows. She was proud of her children and grandchildren and lavished a lot of love through fresh rolls, baked beans, turkey dinners, holiday fudge, blueberry muffins, chocolate cake with boiled icing, and the list goes on.

Joyce is survived by her husband of 60 years, Eldon Graham; her children, Matthew (Yuko), Gatineau, QC; Glenn (Lesley), Cross Roads, NS; and Garth (Carly), New Westminster, BC; grandchildren, Mayu and Kai, Jesse and Kaly, and Clara and Annie. Joyce is also survived by her brother, Harry Redmond (Grace), sister, Molly Emin; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Joyce was predeceased by her sister, Shirley MacLeod and her brothers-in-law, Aulden MacLeod, Victor Emin and Norman Pitman.

The family would like to thank the staff of Glen Haven Manor.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, August 14th, at 11am in Middle Stewiacke United Church, 21 Cloverdale Road, Middle Stewiacke, with Rev. Larry Harrison officiating. A reception will be held in Middle Stewiacke Recreation Centre immediately following the private family burial. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Middle Stewiacke United Church general funds.

Herbert Sidney George

George, Herbert Sidney- age 71, of Musquodoboit Harbour passed away August 3, 2026.

Herb was born and raised in the small Newfoundland community of New Perlican, Trinity Bay. As a small boy he loved the game of hockey, as a goalie using catalogues as goalie pads and rubber boots instead of skates. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy at the age of 17 and spent five years serving before leaving in 1977. He met his future wife, Lorna while in the Navy. After leaving the military, they lived in Halifax before moving to Musquodoboit Harbour, a place which reminded Herb of back home. Herb became Commodore of Petpeswick Yacht Club where he and Lorna enjoyed their boat and socializing with a beverage. They also enjoyed four-wheeling through many trails. He loved listening to music (mostly Newfoundland) and reading many books, his favourite Stephen King. Even though he settled in Nova Scotia, he loved to return home to Newfoundland and visit with family and often drive to New Perlican and relive old memories. This involved staying up until the wee hours of the morning telling stories and yarns about their adventures when they were children. Herb and Lorna found a house in their community for their son, Kenny and daughter-in-law, Darlene so they were close together to watch their grandchildren, Brianna and Nathan grow up together.

Leaving to mourn his passing are his wife of 47 years, Lorna (Hubley) George; stepson, Kenny Brunt (Darlene); grandchildren, Brianna and Nathan (Joy); brothers, Ken (Ruth), Jeff (Sheila), Gerald (Karen), Dean (Mandy); sister, Glendene (Donald Turner); and a large number of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, Herbert and Jean George; brother, Robin George; niece, Laura Griffen.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Sunday, October 18, from 1–4 p.m. in Petpeswick Yacht Club, 434 E Petpeswick Rd, Musquodoboit Harbour.

Janet Marie Horne

In loving memory of Janet Marie Horne of Enfield, NS it is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Janet Marie Horne, age 71 on August 4, 2026.

Janet was a daughter of the late Robert and Mary Horne of Enfield. Janet lived her years marked by kindness, loyalty, love of family and treasured friends who were there for her always. Her witty and spontaneous humour made for many fun times. She enjoyed kayaking, Saturday nights with Hannah, girl trips, gardening, and thrifting. Janet worked directly with the public as an administrative assistant with Bedford Dental, Elmsdale Vision Centre and The Hearing Specialist. She had a remarkable ability to connect with people. Along the way she made countless lifelong friendships.

Special thanks to Janie Conley and Sandra MacPhee who drove her to many appointments during her illness, those who visited, cared for her and brought meals.

She leaves behind her much loved son, Matt; his partner, Tricia Heinrich; Janet’s partner, Alvin Freeborn; her sisters, Norma McDonell and Patricia Parker; her darling granddaughter, Hannah; step-grandchildren, Mitchell, Ava and Mason; her nephews, Robbie Parker and Luke McDonell.

Through her illness these past two years, Janet had her wonderful friend and our “family nurse” Janice Smith by her side to encourage, comfort and to care for her. There are no words to tell you how grateful we are. “Janet is inside each of us who loved her and will always be.”

John Robert Shipley

Shipley, John Robert – Age 78, passed away August 4, 2026 at home surrounded by family.

Born in Truro, he was the son of the late John Shipley and Marion (Works) Martin.

John was a roofer for 51 years having worked with FOSCO and PMC Roofing companies.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret; children, John (Krista) Shipley, Allen (Karen) Henley, Rose (Vernon) Findlay, Crystal (Donnie) McNutt, Jamie (Alina) Hall, Wade (Amanda) Hall; grandchildren, Victoria, Tyler, Stephanie, Zack, Kelsey, Katie, Luke, Neil, Pamela, Donald, Paula, Abel, Ayla, Quinn; great-grandchildren, Gavin, Lyla, Emma, Elena, Harper, Presley; sisters, Bernadette and Darlene; and his former wife, Pamela.

He was predeceased by sister, Jacqueline and former wife, Beverley.

Cremation has taken place. 

A Celebration of Life will take place on Sunday, August 9 from 3-6 p.m. in Enfield Firehall, 273 Highway 2, Enfield.

Daley, Rosalie Jane – It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Janie Daley, age 74, of Truro. She passed away peacefully in Palliative Care in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro on her birthday July 31, 2026.

Born in Dean, she was a daughter of the late Dave and Catherine Watson.

She is survived by daughter, Amanda (Guy) Poirier, Shediac, NB; son, Robbie Volans (Wendy Dutcher), Falmouth, NS; granddaughter, Rachel Belliveau, Dieppe, NB; great-granddaughter, Madison Ricker and great-grandson, Liam Belliveau. She embraced Steve’s daughters, Sheila and Karen; grandchildren, Austin, Kianna and Jada; great-granddaughter, Addilynn; siblings, Faye Fraser, Judy Jardine, Donna Hawes, Debbie (Ken) Cox, Wayne (Bonnie) Watson, Charlie (Alaine) Watson; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her partner, Steve Mira; husband, Vernon Daley; brother, Robert; sisters, Joan Eastman and Bessie Stewart.

Janie was known for her humor, sarcasm, shopping at Temu, and spending time at the Legion with her many dear friends. Janie loved her family so much and enjoyed the many get togethers. And you would never know what she would surprise you with when you came to visit her.

Cremation has taken place.

A graveside service will be held at a later date.

Lester Nicholas Watson

Watson, Lester Nicholas – Age 63, of Chaswood, passed away July 30, 2026 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Barrie, Ontario, he was a son of the late James and Maxine (Gould) Watson. Lester enjoyed hunting and playing darts. He was a hard-worker giving his all to any task put before him. Lester will always be loved and missed by his wife, Alice (West); daughters, Cheryl (Dave), Bonnie (Jody), Nicole (Barrett); son, Robbie (Steph); grandchildren, Catherine, Stanley, Lucas, Lincoln, Logan and Lennox; brother, Jamie; sister, Shelley. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by son, Jimmy Lee in infancy. Cremation has taken place. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Memorial donations may be made to Nova Scotia Lung Association. Many thanks to the nursing staff in ICU of CEHHC for the wonderful care Lester received.

Laszlo Michael Retfalvi

Retfalvi, Laszlo Michael – age 57 of Nine Mile River, passed away July 30, 2026 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro.

Born in Toronto, he was a son of the late Elsie (MacKenzie) Retfalvi.

For 35 years he was an employee of Parts For Trucks in both Dartmouth and Truro. He and his son, Jarrett enjoyed time together tinkering on old cars.

Cremation has taken place.

In keeping with his wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service.

Barbara Shirley McGregor

McGregor, Barbara Shirley – Age 86, of Ostrea Lake, N.S., passed away peacefully on July 28, 2026 in Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital, with her family by her side.

Barbara is survived by her sons, Brian McGregor (Donna) and Bruce McGregor (Terri); brother, Winston Wright (Joan); sister, Marlene Robicheau (Daryl); many nieces, nephews, and grandchildren, including one great-grandchild.

She was predeceased by her husband, Murray McGregor; brother, Darrell Wright; and her longtime companion, Ray Truen.

Barbara was a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. She grew up in Dean, N.S., and later moved to Dartmouth, where she worked for Maritime Tel and Tel. She married her husband, Murray, in 1965 and moved to Ostrea Lake, where she raised her two sons and spent the remainder of her life. She loved her community, becoming involved with St. George's Anglican Church and working for the local newspaper. She also babysat her two nieces, Sarah and Lauren, for 13 years and was very proud of them.

Barb loved life, especially dancing and music. There was always music playing in her house, and she never missed a chance to attend a community celebration. She also loved to travel and took many trips over the years with family and friends.

Special thanks to Birches Nursing Home, where Barb moved in 2025. Barb loved the staff and enjoyed many activities there, always saying how kind they were to her. Thanks also to the staff at Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital for their care and compassion during Barb's final days.

Barb will be forever missed. 

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Home.

A memorial service will be held in St. Thomas Anglican Church, Musquodoboit Harbor on Tues., August 4th, at 1 pm. A graveside service will follow for family, with a reception immediately afterward at the Ostrea Lake Fire Hall. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Birches Nursing Home.

Adam Joseph Dunford

Dunford, Adam Joseph –The family of Adam Joseph Dunford of Oldham, is saddened to announce his passing in Halifax on July 26th, 2026, at the age of 47.

Adam is survived by his daughter, Adalynn; his father, Joseph White (Heather); his brother, Josh White (Leah); his brother, Scott White (Alicia); his sister, Emily (White) Preeper (Darren); his sister, Kayla Nickerson; his brother, Peter Junior Nickerson; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his mother, Leah (Dunford) Nickerson (Peter Nickerson); his maternal grandparents, Hilliard “Everette” Dunford and his wife, Anna (McKenna) Dunford; and his paternal grandparents, Charles White and Rita (Benere) White.

Adam grew up in Woods Harbour. He had a long career as a fisherman and loved being out at sea.

He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Robert Corey Taylor

Taylor, Robert Corey – Age 88 of Dartmouth, passed away peacefully, July 23, 2026 in Oakwood Terrace, Dartmouth.

Born in Upper Musquodoboit, he was a son of the late Clifford and Jean (Stewart) Taylor.

Robert retired from Canada Post and started his own business called Fiddle Sticks repairing stringed instruments. He and Vivian started a band with friends called The Last Chance Band and played all over the province. He loved his family time with grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving are sons, Corey (Karen); Kendall (Krista) and their children, Courtney (Cameron) and Sarah (Nick); Joe (Rhonda) and their children, Rachael (Alex) and Chelsey (Dan).

He was predeceased by his wife, Vivian (Dean) Taylor; brothers, Stewart (Kay), Keith (Joan), Malcolm (Jackie) and Dennis; sisters, Thelma (Victor), Frances (Glen) and Mildred.

Robert will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

We would like to thank the staff at Oakwood Terrace for taking good care of him.

Cremation has taken place.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2-4 p.m. in Fairbanks Centre, 54 Locks Road, Dartmouth.

Burial will take place at a later date at Hillcrest Cemetery, Upper Musquodoboit. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

Cameron Wayne Cooper

Cooper, Cameron Wayne – It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Cameron Wayne Cooper, age 67, of Dean and formerly of Pope’s Harbour on July 22, 2026, surrounded by his wife and family. Born in Sheet Harbour, he was a son of Sharon Cooper and the late James “Jim” Cooper. Cameron had a long-standing accomplishment with dart games, and lobster fishing, but his greatest pride came from his employment with Alva Construction Limited, Antigonish. He will always be loved and missed by his wife of 25 years, Wanda Priest; mother, Sharon; sisters, Melinda and Lisa; daughters, Morgan (Brian), Chyenne (Brandon); sons, Brandon (Latisha), Wayne (Pamela), Billy (Raven), Luke; step-children, Micheal, Jeremy (Maddie), Hanna (Nick). Cameron also leaves behind several grandchildren. Besides his father, he was predeceased by his son, Cory. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, July 31 from 2-5 pm in Upper Musquodoboit Community Hall.
