Corbin-Shay, Linda C.

Corbin-Shay, Linda C. – Age 59. November 16, 2014 marks the start of a celebration of the life of a wonderful woman, mother, and daughter, Linda Corbin-Shay. Born in Kentville February 18, 1955, she was a daughter of Elaine and Doran Corbin. Graduating from the VG School of Nursing in 1974, and again with her B.Sc. in nursing from Charles Stuart University in 2008, Linda worked in the 7A Prenatal Special Care Unit at the IWK Grace Hospital for nearly 30 years. At 15 she met her high school sweetheart, Darrell Whylie Shay, and married on July 5, 1980. Linda could often be seen supporting her children around the province, and often the world. She will always be remembered for her love of travelling, and in the past three years alone Linda saw New York, Boston, Ottawa, Uganda, and Cuba. Her kind, loving, and blunt nature will forever be cherished by her friends and family, and mirrored in her three amazing children.

She is survived by husband, Darrell; their children and partners, Laura (Alex), Kyle (Lori), and Heather (Shawn). Linda will also be loved and remembered by her siblings, Barry (Ann), Dwight (Doris), Marilyn Sturgeon, and Jocelyn Fielden; extended family, Danny (Kathy), Theresa (Ron), Raymond (Nancy), Gladys Hiltz, Nancy (Brian), Don (Eleanor).

Linda ensured her final hours passed on her own terms, surrounded by family in the care of the wonderful staff of Twin Oaks Hospital. Linda, family and friends wish to give special thanks to her dear friends, Mary Hansen and Sherry Carter, the staff of Twin Oaks, and the VG Gyne Oncology unit.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit. Family and friends are invited to celebrate the life of Linda during visitations at Good Shepherd Congregational Church, Lawrencetown, from 12:30-2:30 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, November 20, as well as a funeral service in First United Church, Musquodoboit Harbour, Friday, November 21, at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Linda has requested that donations be made to Canadian Ovarian Cancer Society.
