Arsenault (Raye), Mary Elizabeth– It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Elizabeth Arsenault on August 18, 2026.
Born in Stewiacke, Mary leaves behind her beloved husband, Alphie Arsenault, who loved and cared for her until the end; eight grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; extended family including numerous nieces and nephews; and a community rich with friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, Marjorie (Newton) and Leroy Franklin Raye; her two sons, Neil and Merlin McCarthy; and four siblings, Lillian Metlin, Paul Raye, Duncan Raye, Frank Raye.
Mary moved to Mississauga and began a lifelong career at Good Year. It was in Mississauga that she met Al Arsenault and they were married on July 19, 1969. They recently celebrated a remarkable milestone of 57 years of marriage. Upon both of their retirements they made a decision to return home to Nova Scotia in fall 1989 and bought a house in Lantz, where they currently resided.
Mary loved spending time with family and friends and enjoyed going out for coffee and sharing meals, stories and laughter. She enjoyed many years of travel with Al and family to warmer climates on both land and ocean, creating wonderful memories. She was a card shark and delighted in winning at games of crib against unsuspecting opponents (although winning against Al was a tougher challenge). Mary enjoyed crosswords and looked forward to the newest one in each weekly newspaper. And on a beautiful day she could be found sitting on her front porch enjoying the warmth of the sun and the day in front of her.
Mary will be remembered with love by Al, her family near and far across the country, and by all who came to know and love her throughout the years. It was a life of faith and was well lived. Mary was grateful for the gentle care and comfort that she received from the medical professionals in her last days. She will be missed every day.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
