Laybolt, Ivan Wayne – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ivan Wayne Laybolt, age 81, of Musquodoboit Harbour, on August 25, 2026.
Ivan was a son of the late Robert and Alice (Foley) Laybolt.
Those who knew Ivan will remember him for many things, but especially for his wonderful sense of humour. He loved to tease the kids and torment the adults, and it didn’t matter who you were—you were fair game. His jokes, teasing, and laughter brought plenty of smiles and memories that will be cherished by all who knew him.
Ivan was also someone you could always count on. If anyone needed a helping hand, day or night, he was there. He proudly served with the Eastern Shore Ground Search and Rescue team for over 45 years, giving his time and helping others in his community.
He loved being outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing for as long as his health allowed him to get out into the woods. These were some of the things that brought him happiness and gave him many good memories over the years.
Ivan was predeceased by his beloved wife, Judith (Ryan). He leaves behind his sons, Robert (Brandi), Duane (Natasha), both of Musquodoboit Harbour; daughter, Trina (Ellis) Carroll, of Elmsdale; grandchildren, Nick, Kayla, Kaitlyn, Christopher, Austin, and Anthony; and nine great-grandchildren, who will all carry memories of him with them. He is also survived by his sisters, Catherine Gordon and Bonita (Melvin) Day; brothers Wilson (Donna) and Earl (Christina); along with many nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife, Judith, Ivan was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Brian Gordon and his brother, Milton (Lorna).
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of The Birches and Northwood home care for the kindness, care, and compassion they showed Ivan.
Ivan will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His humour, generosity, willingness to help others, and the memories he made with those around him will remain in our hearts.
Cremation has taken place. A family service will be held in St. James Cemetery on September 4th, 2026 at 2 p.m.
Donations may be made to the Eastern Shore Ground Search and Rescue in his memory.
