Hamilton, Joyce Leola – The family of Joyce Leola Hamilton is saddened to announce her passing on August 25, 2026 at the age of 87. She was born in Noel Shore in a snowstorm where roads were blocked. Newell Hill took a horse and sleigh to Burntcoat to bring Dr. Morehouse back to the farm.
She graduated from NSTC in Truro. Her first classroom was a one room schoolhouse in Gore, Hants County. She then moved on the Quebec and Ottawa teaching special education children. After 12 years she moved back to Nova Scotia and taught resource and special education at Willow Street, Truro until retirement. The teachers of Willow Street always appreciated the calls to remind them of our monthly dinners.
Joyce is survived by her brother, Rudy (Alexandra); nephews, Troy and Stefan Hamilton; nieces, Tracey Hamilton, Joy Wynn; great-nephews, Nikolis and Scotty Wynn; great-nieces, Breanna Barter and Victoria Wynn.
She was predeceased by her parents, Louis and Marion (Hill) Hamilton and her brother, Arnold on August 8th.
Joyce remained very active with her church and faith hoping that her generosity would help the lives of others.
The family would like to thank Pastor Frank and her church family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Noel Shore Cemetery or a charity of choice.
A family graveside service will be held at a later date.
